Decorating The Blog Cabin Tree
I love my “Blog Cabin.” I am astonished at how well it came together. I will admit there were times that I got frustrated and didn’t think we were ever going to finish. But if you have been following along with my Instagram account, you know that Jinxy made the announcement that the cabin is finally done.
I can’t wait to show all that we did and the transformation. But I am going to have to wait until after December 8th to reveal all. Why after December 8th, because I have a group of friends coming to see the cabin. Friends that have supported me in this journey, some by contributing words of encouragement that are embedded in the walls ( more on that later), some who have admitted they have stalked my Instagram waiting to see the finished product and some who have encouraged me on this journey that is blogging. So instead of revealing the finished product, I wanted to share with you, the Christmas tree that is in there.
When I first thought about decorating the cabin for Christmas, I went out and bought a 6 ½ foot tree to put in there. But after thinking about it for a while, I realized that a tree that big would not leave much room for anything else. So instead of putting the tree inside, I am going to put it on the porch the day of the big reveal. However, I was Michael’s one day and saw a prelit 4 ½ foot tree that was a doorbuster for $20, so I grabbed that. But that is where I faced a dilemma. Most of the ornaments that I liked for the tree were too overpowering, and I felt like they just wouldn’t do. So After walking around the store for like hours it seemed ( don’t judge, you know you do this too. 🙂 ), I found some small bulbs but no other ornaments like the ones I wanted for the tree. Because this tree is in the “Blog Cabin” I knew I wanted things on it to represent my journey as a writer ( experiences, words, my loves, etc.) It wasn’t until I hit the aisles with the mini dollhouse like furniture and the charms for jewelry that my creative juices started following. Why couldn’t I make these into ornaments? And guess what that is what I did?
So now I am going to share with you some of the minis and charms that I have put on my “Blog Cabin” Christmas tree.
The first thing I picked out was a coffee cup ornament. Because let’s face it, I have written about my love for Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha before. So it is no surprise why that is on the tree. Plus I am also known to drink a lot of hot chocolate with whipped cream during the winter, so this was just perfect.
Next, I found these two maps, and I thought this is perfect. My blog has taken me on many journeys (Busch Gardens, Carowinds, Charlotte, my first blog conference, and of course my favorite place Wake Med Soccer Park to see my beloved NCFC play) in the cart they went.
Next up I hit the charm section and found these cute little paws charms. Anybody that knows me knows how much I love my furbabies. I mean who couldn’t love Allie, Jinxy, Tyger, and Markie. But I also couldn’t forget the three furbabies that I mourn to this day- my Winnie, Tutu, and of course my Koda Buggy ( who by the way has a special place in the cabin). So those were added to the cart as well.
Then I found some cross charms. I will say that since I started this blogging journey, I can see my faith being increased tenfold. Whether it was through circumstance ( the trials I went through) and through the people I met, I felt like I have flourished in this blogging journey.
Once I added those to the cart, I saw my favorite sea animal of all time- the seahorse, and it was in a pack with other charms about the sea, and since water soothes my soul– I knew those would be the next thing in my cart.
Words are essential to any blogger so even though I couldn’t find a computer like I wanted, I was able to find these charms that had words like create, inspire, and dream on them. So they just seemed right that they should be added to the tree as well.
I also found an anchor charm. Through the year 2014, I leaned a lot on Hebrews 6:19 – through all my storms my anchor holds. So in the cart that went.
And what would a blogger be without a handy-dandy camera? Isn’t this charm cute?
I finally finished up with some cardinals for the tree, and I thought my tree was complete. But then I realized that I didn’t have a garland for the tree. As I was walking around the store, I found the garlands, and immediately came up with an idea for one I could make and I could incorporate my “Blog Cabin” buddy, Koda’s memory in as well. You may remember I posted this picture this summer of Koda playing with some yarn.
Well, I still had that yarn, so I cut strands of it and braided it into a garland. It means so much more to me because it reminds me of my Koda Buggy.
But what about the tree skirt, I just used a blanket that matched the colors of the garland, and viola my tree was done. Hope you like it.
