Finally My Word for the Year Flourish

Finally My Word for the Year Flourish from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

This post has been a long time coming, I know the year almost halfway over but I wanted to share what my word is for this year. Every time I would sit down and write it out or even type it – something would happen, and I would get distracted. So here it goes my word for 2018- only 6  months or so later.

I thought long and hard about what my one word for this year would be- in the past I have chosen words like devotion and dedication (dedicated?) and I thought I did well with these words. I have also found it helpful to use one word to define what I want my year to be like instead of making a New Year Resolutions that I know I won’t keep.

Merriam Webster defines flourish as a verb that means to grow or develop in a healthy vigorous way especially because of a favorable environment. So why Flourish you ask?

First, because I want to grow as a blogger- working with a strengths coach, I have determined what I need to do to succeed and the first thing is to have a plan. When I have a strategy in place I am unstoppable. I have a few stories in the works already about amazing people and places and I can’t wait to share so stay tuned.

I have also set aside some time to talk to others about what it means to blog and how to get started as a blogger. I am a member of a few online groups, but they aren’t fulfilling the need I see. I want to help others flourish in their community and the blogging community that is sometimes hard to break into. But not for money but to help others find their passion. (So many bloggers today are all about making the buck but that is not the reason behind my ideas.) I do have a post in the works about things you should look at when taking advice from other bloggers so look for a post soon.

I also am forming a group to help fellow women who are small business owners Flourish within their community. I think a unique group of individuals from all walks of life would be beneficial to me (story idea wise) but also to these women as well. In this group, we could trade idea, work on problems we may have in business and encourage and support one another.

Another way I want to flourish is with my family. With two in college and one as a sophomore in high school, I know now that my days with them all home will soon be gone – so I want to plan adventures and as much fun as we can. Plus, I am crossing things off my bucket list. I know we have a few trips in the works and that might or might not include a trip to Wahlburgers (you know how much I love those Wahlberg boys and a few food tasting trips in the works. But I don’t just want to flourish in adventures but also in love. Life may take us all in different directions, but I want my girls to know how much I love them and they are always welcome at our house.

So, I have hit flourishing in my heart (my family and helping others), with my work, and now with my health. I have started to take charge of things. It will be a slow process, but I know I can do it with the help of God.

Which brings me to another Flourish – my faith. Back in October, I bought this devotional on Amazon called Flourish. I didn’t look at it until a few weeks ago when the word Flourish kept popping up in my thoughts. I have lined up some amazing studies that I will be doing along with the online studies that Proverbs 31 Ministries do every few months. I get so much inspiration for life and blog posts when I do these studies that I can’t help but wonder how many amazing posts will come from flourishing this year.

So that is how I plan on Flourishing in 2018. So, tell me what is your word for the year? If you have one, please share.
