Lake Road Winery A Hidden NC Treasure

Lake Road winery

On a little road hidden between two coastal towns, there is a quaint little winery that is just right to spend a lazy afternoon. Recently, my husband and I went on a day trip to the coastal town of New Bern, and while we were there eating at Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant, I texted a friend a picture of our view. Knowing my love for wine, after she had found out where we were, she told me there was a winery within driving distance.

I totally convinced my husband to go and off we went on another adventure. Thanks Kathi for suggesting it. As we drove to the Lake Road Winery, we took in the sights of Havelock and New Bern.

I remember my parents telling me stories of when my dad, USMC retired, was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Even though I wasn’t born yet when my mom and dad and three older sisters lived there. It was where the infamous ice cream story took place. If you are new to the blog, when my sisters were younger, my older two sisters, Sherry, and Denise, put my other sister ( who at the time was the youngest) Karen into conning my dad to get ice cream. It is a story that  brings back a ton of memories for me. And I so can see my dad and my sister Karen eating an ice cream cone in heaven.   And I retold that story to my husband as we drove to the winery.

Wine Tasting at Lake Road Winery

When we got to the winery, we were greeted by the owner. Then we went head first into the wine tasting. I will have to say that this winery was very laid back and relaxed. And you could tell that it was a small family run business, which I love supporting.

Raul and I tasted several yummy wines. But since our taste tends to lean toward the sweet, I will admit that we had a hard time choosing which bottle to purchase. In the end, I won out, and we bought a bottle of Lisa Marie. This was a little different than any other wines that we had tasted as I think this is the first raspberry wine we had ever tasted.

We also purchased some of their homemade products as well. My husband flipped for their salsa. And I just had to have their Muscadine Jelly and Sweet Potato Butter. The muscadine jelly is perfect for those mornings when I sit out on the deck enjoying the morning before the girls wake up. It is excellent on toast and with a cup of coffee.

I will have to say that I am glad that we went a little out of our way for this unplanned adventure. Plus a winery is always a great place for a visit. Just check out the amazing pictures from the day.
