Double Date at Gregory Vineyards

Recently I  have started making it a priority to have dates with Raul after 17 years of marriage you kind of lose track of who you are and what is going on in each other’s lives. With all the stresses of bills etc., it is good to make you sure to schedule regular date nights with your spouse. I have been taking advantage of the deals that I find on Groupon and Living Social to plan our dates. This time I used a Groupon deal, but it was different in that I thought it would be fun to double date with another couple. Here is what I purchased with my Groupon deal. $9 for a wine tasting and tour for four, including four souvenir wineglasses (a $20 total value). Yes folks you read that right, it was a whole $9 for this deal. Of course, we spent that much and more on wine to bring home, but I will get to that in a moment.

Here we are ready for our big date.

Our state has so many wineries that we have made it our mission to try or, at least, attempt to try every one.

This time, we went to Gregory Vineyards.

It is beautiful, right?  A winery is a fantastic place for a date.

We were greeted as if we were family members they had not seen in a long time. The southern hospitality was wonderful.

We got there a few minutes before they opened so we were able to sit on the front porch in the rocking chairs and enjoyed the view.

There are two ponds at this beautiful winery. It is a perfect place for a picnic as well. Just buy your wine there and bring your picnic basket and you have the making of a romantic picnic. One of the ponds has a fountain in it. They also have pedal boats as well. Next, we entered the winery. All I can say is that I felt like I was entering into a high-class high dollar establishment. The decor of the winery was fabulous. I just wish that I had thought to snap a few pictures before the tasting. But unfortunately, I was so excited about being there and how fabulous it was that I just snapped a few during our date. But I hope that you can tell in the background of these pictures how gorgeous it was.

Like I said we went with friends of ours, our wonderful neighbors Mandy and Eddie. Here they are ready to taste.

I loved how they coordinated their outfits. I guess 25 years of marriage will do that to you. We sat at a table set for 4. But there were other options as well. There was a bar where four people could sit at to taste, a bigger table for more people and an even a few intimate tables for two. Here is a quick shot of Raul I had taken before the tasting started.

He is really excited. He loves this stuff. Before I would say let’s do this and he would say no but now he is on board. Notice the wines behind him; I believe he would have taken these all him with him if he could.

We tasted seven wines and their juice. Being a small winery they did not have a huge selection but what they lack as far as selection wise they make up with quality. Out of all the wines that we tasted none of them ranked below a three on a scale of 1-4. Our favorite wines were the Mary Elizabeth and the Lee Love. I loved how all the wines were named after family members. Lee Love was named after the wine maker’s 90 something-year-old mother who loves her wine.

Mary Elizabeth is a sweet white muscadine wine and Lee Love is a sweet red muscadine wine. Yep, you guessed it we love the sweet wines. But all the wines there tasted fabulous. These two just happened to be our favorites.

After the tasting, we were given a tour of the winery. Check out the pictures I snapped of this. Yes, that’s right I remembered, this time, to take pictures because my brain was not focused on the wine anymore. LOL

The press

Our excellent guide he also was our wine tasting guy. He sure knew his wine.

The stages it goes through

How they get the wine into bottles. I thought this was fascinating.

After the tour, we sat and visited with Eddie and Mandy for a while waiting for the wine -a- ritas to be ready. I have Raul hooked on those things lol. We never once felt rushed to leave, and the staff there made us feel like we were a part of the family.

We ended up leaving the winery with two bottles of Mary Elizabeth, a bottle of juice ( for the girls they always want to try this from every winery we go) and a cute little picnic basket we picked up for $2.00 I will share that picture later. I have something sweet in mind for this. I know you are probably thinking why didn’t we pick up a bottle of Lee Love (since it was our favorite), well we were going to but Mandy and Eddie decided to buy us a bottle for inviting them to share this deal with us. So I did get my LEE LOVE.

All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and I am definitely looking at the calendar to see when we can go back again. Maybe this time, we can bring the girls and have a family picnic they can try the juice while we taste the wine.

Here is a picture that I snapped as we were leaving.

If you get a chance, go by and visit and tell them Adventures of Frugal Mom said Hello. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
