What is God telling Me Today?

This post was made possible by a partnership between Avance Care and Adventures of Frugal Mom.

What is God telling me today? Those simple words greet me every morning when I turn on the computer in the Blog Cabin. Those words along with a vision board I created are my current screensaver. They haven’t always been there but they are a reminder to look for God in everyday life. When I am disconnected spiritually, I feel disconnected from life. Those words came out of a conversation I had during my first appointment with Shannon from Avance Care

Shannon is a nutritionist but so much more. She had allowed me to sort through my priorities and to learn to give myself grace. Over our hour-long zoom call, I soon found out what my non-negotiables were. They are listed below.

  1. Spending time with God – whether it is by doing a devotional or Bible study. Taking a walk outside, being near a body of water ( remember the discovery I made last week on the edge of our property) to reading the Bible. It really is just as simple as being still and listening to what God is trying to tell me.
  2. Movement- whether it is walking or just doing some yoga poses I feel so much better when I take the time to actually do the thing.
  3. And lastly, letting go of convenience foods. Sure McDonald’s is okay once in a while – Allie does love their french fries but if you eat there all the time it isn’t good for your body or your soul. I worked really hard to get those 30 pounds off and I am not going to let them slowly creep back on.

So those were my non-negotiables. But the question “What is God telling me today?” is the most important thing I face each day. I can refuse to ignore the signs or I can just let go and let God. I have learned from Shannon that what I chose to focus on is more important than what is taking up all my energy during the day.

After the first appointment, I have had three so far with her. I knew I needed to start focusing on what I could control and let the things I can’t control go. This led me to create a screensaver for my desktop that represents all the areas of my life.

Here is a breakdown of each part of the screensaver. First, let me tell you I agonized over what I would put on it. I found the mirror first. The mirror represents who God sees me as and not what I see when I look in the mirror. You may recall I wrote a blog post about a mirror awhile back. The pixelated person with the cute Shih Tzu represents me and that cutie patootie, Allie. Notice the woman is ready for a hike with a backpack.  I noticed when I spent time in nature and just took in all of God’s handiwork I was more centered and ready to take on the world.

The lower-left corner represents the business. Whether I am chatting by phone, creating content, watching a film to review, or just traveling for work, I need to remember to look for the signs that God is sharing with me.

The lower right corner with the blog cabin, which by the way has boots on the doorstep, did you notice represents the accomplishments that I have made in the past and the accomplishments with God’s help I will make in the future.

When it came to filling in the upper right hand corner, I was at a loss as to what I wanted to put there. And then it came to me. One of my favorite Bible verses

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.  – Isaiah 40:31

And I knew that an eagle had to be in that corner. If you notice it is not the only bird in the picture. There is a bird sitting on a branch of the tree – that represents my sister, Karen and my dad who I know along with God are watching over me.

So that is how my screensaver came to be. It is during and after these chats with Shannon that I feel my creative juices flow and I am able to create and I have learned that I love being present within myself.

I can’t wait to chat with you about what the other sessions led me to do. But for now I am always asking the question “What is God telling me today?”
