Friday Five Moments of Gratitude
It has been awhile since I actually wrote a personal blog post about gratitude. This post has been a long time coming I have thoughts of writing these posts every week but it seems like every week Friday comes around and I totally forget about them. So this is the first edition of Friday Five Moments of Gratitude or as it will be soon be known Friday Smiles.
So before we get into the moments, let’s take a moment and talk about what gratitude is and what it means. According to Webster’s Dictionary Gratitude means the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. So now that we know what gratitude means let’s talk about the importance of being grateful. I will admit that I don’t always show gratitude when it needs to be shown. I think that is one of the reasons I decided to start writing these posts so I could hold myself accountable to all the things that I should and need to be grateful for- so here are my five smiles this week.
Hanging with Hubby
In the past, I would just let him do the errands and not ride along but lately I have been riding with him to grab dinner, pay bills and sometimes just to go the store. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we are silent but still we are there together. A couple of weeks ago, he had a side job after work and I rode with him with my laptop. While he did his work I caught up on emails. Sometimes we have to be intentional in sharing our time with loved ones. This coming week we are traveling to Virginia to visit one of our daughters who will be in a meeting for a few days. It will just be us two on the drive. Sometimes you need to just away from it all to remember who you are as a person and as a couple.
Greenhouse Open House
I am not sure if mentioned it here, but if you follow me on Instagram, you will see that I started another blog called The Writer and The Farmer. In doing this it has opened my eyes up to all the farmers in my areas. One such farm is Pinkney Farm. I actually wrote a blog post over on The Writer and The Farmer on why Tuesdays are my favorite days of the week. This past weekend Amber from Pinkney Farm hosted an open house and hubby and I went to look at the plants she had for sale. We got some portulaca and a fern for the front of the blog cabin. The portulaca went directly into my pink pig (which my hubby made me years ago) and the fern was hung. But after looking at the fern, I realized I should have gotten 2 instead of the 1, so I quickly messaged Amber to see if she had another one. She did and promised she would delivery it on my CSA flower delivery day. She delivered it and when she did she put it in the perfect spot on my front porch. So perfect that I ended up messaging her asking to purchase another fern because it looked so good where she had placed it. I love supporting local farmers, but do you know something while I was on the farm, I didn’t even take one picture. I guess I was just enjoying time with my hubby that it totally slipped my mind.
Time with My Girls
Over the next week I will have spent time with all three of my girls. Of course, Gracie is my sidekick with all the other girls gone from the house. I enjoy doing things with her and she has been the biggest help when it comes to my crazy ideas about redecorating the house. Mikaela was home for Easter and we had some very meaningful conversations while she was home. I wish she could had stayed longer but I guess she is like me – she sleeps better in her own bed. And lastly, we get to my California girl Maddie this week. I am so excited. Do you know it has been a year since I have hugged her neck. Last time she was home was when the above picture was taken- Mikaela’s graduation from college. I am one lucky mom.
Being Creative
As I wrote in last Friday’s post, I had a huge creative block. I would have an idea start it but nothing ever seemed to get finished. I looked at my bathroom for months before I decided to get off my butt and finish it. I can’t wait to share with you all the redecorating I am doing in the house. I am currently working on the living room and kitchen. More on the redecorating coming soon
Being creative has also made me rethink some of the ways our outdoor furniture is located. I created a reading nook in the front year where I spend time with my little baby, Allie. We often sit out there in the afternoons reading a book and waiting for hubby to come home .
Dear Friends
I love all of my friends but there are 2 that especially made me smile this week. One with her encouraging texts, audio messages and voice mails. The only problem with this friend is I wish she lived closer to me. We soo would be doing so much together.
And the other of the 2 that made me smile this week, is the one who knows me better than I know myself. But the best part is we understand each other. She is my go to for advice on what to binge-watch.
So these are my Friday Five Moments of Gratitude. Tell me what are you grateful for this week?
I love this so much! Thank you my friend!
