Nuts can be an excellent treat for dogs even though they carry some risks. So, you may need to consider some factors before you decide to give them out as a treat to your pup. Some nuts are toxic, while others are loaded with too many calories. Of course, some nuts are safe for dogs, but there are those that should be avoided. This article seeks to answer the question, can dogs eat pistachios? If you are a dog owner, it is vital to remember that while nuts could be a good treat for four dogs, not all nuts are safe.  So when you decide to feed your pet on the treat, you must evaluate the nuts and select those that offer less fat and fewer calories. Dogs can eat a few pistachios but not more. Eating too much pistachio can cause blockage and discomfort. Here are a few nuts to feed your dog.

1. Peanuts

Peanuts are widely grown in tropical areas. It produces peanut seeds, which are packed with oil. The seeds develop underground. They fix nitrogen in the soil but can also help improve soil fertility.

Even though peanuts are safe and could be used in dog cookies, It should be done in moderation. Dogs have issues in digesting fats compared to humans. So when they are fed on food with a high concentration of fat, it causes some stomach upset. They are likely to vomit and diarrhea.  Also, when dogs consume too much fat, they end up with a condition referred to as pancreatitis. It is an inflammation of the pancreases since it may not be able to break it down or process fats.

2. Cashew

Cashew nuts are harvested from a cashew tree, which is an evergreen tropical tree that produces cashew apple and cashew seed. The tree can grow up to 14 m, but it can also remain a dwarf at 6 m. Cashew can be eaten raw or could be processed into cheese or butter. Pets like dogs can also eat cashew. However, they should be eaten in moderation because they contain toxins. Also, ensure that they are roasted and cooked properly. High temperature eliminates toxins making the nuts safe for the pet.

3. Hazelnuts

The nuts are not toxic and could be consumed at any time. However, if the dogs are small, hazelnut could not be the best option because they may choke the dog. Besides, they may cause intestinal obstruction and trouble the dog.

4.Walnuts

The English wall-nuts are safe for the dog. So they can be given to the dogs at any time without worrying about the outcome. However, don’t give your black dog wall-nuts. They are toxic and can lead to diarrhea.

5. Pecans

They are safe and could be served as a treat to dogs.

Of course, there are other types of nuts that you can use to feed your dog. However, you must check the fat content to ensure that they don’t hurt your dog. Also, the nuts should not be eaten in excess.
