Fighting Negative Body Images By Empowering Women
This month is Women’s History Month so each day I will be sharing either about an event that women are holding, a woman-owned business, reintroducing you to my girls ( they each get a separate post) and also giving you a brief glimpse of the women I admire.
Today, I want to share with you an idea that I had this past summer after reading in a book that women are exposed to 220 negative body images ad in a day. I was so blown away by that. So I decided that I wanted to help combat those images with positive ones. I enlisted some of my fellow blogging friends to help me break that exposure. I asked them to send me their favorite pictures and tell me why it was their favorite. I didn’t censor or airbrush any photos and didn’t give them a word count. Some wrote a short blurb and others wrote a book ( not really a book ) but enough that they will be getting their own blog post. But all in all, I was blown away by the response I got from each and every one of them so instead of lumping them into one post, I am picking four a day to highlight and will be doing this as an extra post all throughout the month of March. So without further ado, here are four amazing women bloggers and their pictures, I would like to note that the order they are in was how quickly they got back to me. Has nothing to do with how awesome they are because they are all are amazing women.
I met Ashley and Anna on the wine tour I went on. Linda, I met on my trip to Fayetteville and Molly well you know how I met Molly because I featured her this past Friday. Each one of these women are amazing in their own right. And every one of them are just the sweetest people you could have ever meet.
“This is one of my most favorite recent pictures of myself. For me, I love it because I have always liked my eyes and my smile and I feel like this picture best represents who I am as a person and I can feel my personality when I look at this picture. Self-confidence is a process for me, but the more I realize that I am beautiful because God made me beautiful, the more confident I feel.” – Molly from Still Being Molly
I love this photo of myself because it really embodies my style (and my brand of course). My favorite shoes, my favorite jeans, with coffee in hand. This photo says it all. – Anna from The CoffeeTable Blog
I definitely struggle with hating most photos taken of me. Because I don’t wear a lot of makeup normally (because I’ve never made it a priority to learn how to apply makeup where it actually stays on, matches my skin tone, or give me eyelashes), I often feel taken aback by the lack of color of my face when I see photos of me. I love this particular photo of me! The Texas heat gave me some rosy cheeks and that genuine smile conveys how much fun I have with food photography. The standing on the picnic table is also an accurate representation of the heights I’ll take to get the shot! – Linda from Girl Eats World
I love this picture of myself because I pushed myself to share a portion of myself that in the past, I have been very insecure about. I carry most of my weight in my legs and for years, always kept them covered. As I have gotten older, I have learned to embrace all of me. I choose not to hide, but to show up fully. I felt so good in this picture and I hope it shows on my face! – Ashley from FabEllis
Stay tuned for more fabulous women bloggers and friends and read their stories. Let’s get rid of those negative images and replace them with positive ones. I do hope you get as much out of these posts as I did when reading their stories. Until next time.
