As Country As Cornbread Fundraiser

Giving Back Series from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

It is officially December. And you know what that means? It is the start of my giving back series. Each day this month I will post either a way you can give back or profile organizations that give back. So check back every day to check out ways you can give back.  Today I have a post about giving back to a very rural county in NC that was hit hard by Hurricane Florence. Some amazing chefs have come together to publish an ebook with some yummy cornbread recipes. Read on to find out how you can purchase this ebook.

When thinking about giving gifts at Christmas, it always makes me feel good to not only give friends gifts they will enjoy but also that the money I spend goes to a good cause. And with as much need as there is around our country and the world these days, it’s more vital than ever.

This year, consider giving yourself or friends who love to cook Southern Food the eCookbook As Country As Cornbread. This little book contains cornbread recipes and recipes we love to serve with cornbread, all generously submitted by chefs, restaurateurs, cookbook authors, and food writers around the Carolinas.

All proceeds from the sale of As Country As Cornbread go straight to the Jones County Community Relief Fund, a partner in the North Carolina Community Foundation. Jones County was hit particularly hard by Hurricane Florence as the Trent River rose, crested, then overflowed its banks, flooding entire towns for days and leaving nothing but sodden ruin behind.

Kinston native Vivian Howard of The Chef and The Farmer and A Chef’s Life raised money for Jones County with her “Country as Cornbread” tee shirt fundraiser, and some of us food folks in NC–many members of Les Dames d’Escoffier International–decided we could piggyback off Vivian’s fundraiser and raise even more relief funds for Jones County. Jenni Field of Pastry Chef Online and Lynn Wells of Thyme Well Spent Personal Chef Services spearheaded the fundraiser and launched the website with a live cookalong which you can watch here.

  1. You are welcome. Thank you for supporting the folks from Jones County. I am originally from Onslow so I know how hard hit these places have been.
