Breakfast at the JB Duke Hotel
This post was made in conjunction with the JB Duke Hotel.
The past few days I have been telling you about the stay at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and how it reminded me of an old southern mansion from long ago days. Well just down the hill from the inn is their sister property the JB Duke Hotel. These two properties could not have been any more different if they tried. But they did have one thing in common, and that is southern hospitality. Courtney and I were able to experience breakfast at the JB Duke hotel and were just as impressed with this hotel as we were with its sister property.
Sunday morning we woke up and got ready for our 8 o’clock breakfast at the JB Duke hotel. It was a brief 10 minutes walk to the hotel only crossing one main road. In our meetings with staff at the Washington Duke, we had heard how ultra modern the hotel, so we were surprised to see it when walked down the hill.
Even though it was modern, it just seems to fit in the architecture of Duke University which is known for its Gothic style. As we approached the building Courtney and I talked about how even though it was different from the inn, it was still just as beautiful.
Stepping into the hotel, we felt like we were stepping into pages from Architectural Digest. I fell in love with how sleek and modern and clean the hotel was. As we walked down the stairs to the Marketplace ( their dining room), we took in the scenery. It was stunning.
We approached the hostess station and were immediately seated. This was a little different than dining at the Fairview as breakfast was more buffet style, and we got to chose what we wanted to eat. But there was a ton of food to choose from.
As I was walking around trying to decide what to eat, I kept noticing the signs that were everywhere in the restaurants. I am not going to lie I laughed aloud when I read some of them. Here are a few of my favorites.
One of the great things about the Marketplace is their made to order omelet station. Both Courtney and I decided that this one thing that we had to try. I got a yummy omelet with bacon, cheese, bell peppers, and tomato. It was delicious.
And just like at the Washington Duke the level of Southern Hospitality was impressive. Although there were several other customers in the restaurant, Ronnie, our waiter was incredible. I mean he made sure that we had everything we needed and anticipated what we needed before we were able to ask. Customer service like that is so hard to find these days.
I will have to say that I fell in love with both places ( the Washington Duke Inn and The JB Duke Hotel) and would not mind going back to experience them again sometime soon.
If you are ever in the area make sure to check out the Marketplace located at the JB Duke Hotel.
