Southern Hospitality at the Fairview Dining Room
I was given a complimentary stay at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in exchange for this Fairview Dining Room post which has turned into a series.
I have told you about our experience having afternoon tea at the Fairview Dining Room located inside the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina, But folks, you haven’t seen anything yet. I have more yumminess in store but first, let me tell you about the people at the inn.
Let me start by saying earlier in the day, Courtney and I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Chef Murray, Chef de Cuisine at the Fairview Dining Room. I would be lying if I said that we weren’t drooling when he talked about the dishes on the menu. Y’all they tasted as good as they sounded, but more on that in another post.
During our chat, I was impressed with how much input each member of the staff has on the Fairview Dining Room’s menu. And that everyone is invested in creating a menu that satisfies each guest. The central question that is asked when deciding on the seasonal menu is “Where is the South in my mouth?” They change their menus according to what is available from local artisans. I love places that buy from local areas. It is just a smart business practice. Courtney and I asked him to recommend some dishes to try for dinner – and let’s just say the rest is history. So when it came time for our 7 o’clock reservation, we had a game plan, or so we thought.
When we arrived at the Fairview Dining Room, we were greeted by William & Apryl. William had been there earlier in the day and remembered our names. (I was blown away by that I might add.) Drew had set us up at the same table we had for our afternoon tea, but as we were being shown to our table, Courtney mentioned how cozy the round booths looked. William said we could sit there if we wanted and we were like I don’t know. We didn’t want to take someone else’s table but Drew stepped in and said it would okay.
It was a total pleasure to be served by the amazing Fairview Dining Room staff from William to Apryl, who greeted as we entered to Kathleen, Brian, Matthew, Jisselle, Bobby and Drew who made sure our dining experience was special and unique.
I even noticed that sitting at one of the tables near us there was an elderly couple enjoying dinner, We then saw that the woman had a pillow behind her back propping her up. We thought she had brought it to the Fairview Dining Room but as they finished their dinner and got up to leave- the pillow was still on the chair. And employee had brought her pillow to make sure she was comfortable. How awesome right? It is those special touches that made dining at the Fairview Dining Room at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club a fantastic dining experience.
Check back tomorrow to see what we ended up eating for dinner.
