How to Keep Your House Clean with a New Baby by North Carolina Mommy Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

This is one of the most challenging tasks for parents with newborns. Sometimes, it even seems like something completely unachievable. Well, it is not. Of course, your home can still be kept relatively neat in spite of the fact your baby is taking most of your time. However, if you expect to be able to keep it impeccable, brace yourself. Babies bring a lot of joy to our lives, but they also bring a ton of new obligations which interfere with our old daily habits. We are here to share with you some valuable knowledge that should, hopefully, help you deal with this new situation you found yourself in. So, keeping your house clean with a newborn, what should one do?

LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS

We have kind of touched upon this topic during the introductory paragraph. Honestly, we cannot stress enough how important it is to lower your expectations when it comes to how clean your house should be. If you are worried about what people might say when they see a bit of mess in your household, we would advise you to work a little bit on your spotlight effect. Most people are genuinely understanding, and they will not make a big deal out of it. Everybody has at least a vague idea of how hard it can be to maintain a habit of cleanliness when a newborn is around. So, step one has to be to face and accept the fact that your home will not look the same as it did prior to your baby moving in.

INVOLVE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS

At least in the beginning, it is of crucial significance to get other family members involved. Call your mom and dad, brother or sister, best friend, whoever, but having this type of support will make your life more tolerable. It is very important that you do not feel alone in all of this. We do not know what the situation with your partner is, but it would be amazing if you found a way to split your responsibilities between the two of you. This the time when solidarity in cohabitation should really show its importance. Your baby needs you to be relaxed as much as possible in order for your time with him/her to be special. Besides from helping you get those chores done, rely on your parents and friends when you need some time for yourself.

MAKE A SCHEDULE

We know. This one can be really tricky to pull off. Making a schedule and adhering to it requires a healthy dosage of predictability. Like as Elizabeth from thehomemakersjournal.com says, “When your newborn is around, life gets pretty much unpredictable. Nevertheless, you can make a succinct version of what one would call a “cleaning schedule”. Next time your baby dozes of, sit down with a piece of paper and think about your cleaning priorities.” When you figure them out, put them on paper. A good approach would be to designate each day of the week with a particular task. This one could be a real lifesaver.

ANALYZE YOUR BABY’S SLEEPING PATTERNS

It may sound like a weird thing to do, but trust us, it is going to be very helpful. You are going to be able to relax at least a little bit when your baby is sleeping. However, you can use these moments to catch up with some of your chores. Try to leave those noisy activities for when your baby is really tired and will fall asleep no matter what (evening time). So, do your vacuuming in the evening, but deal with dishes and dusting during the day when your baby is napping. Luckily, people have invented the baby carrier. If you still have not bought one, we implore you to do so. Having a baby carrier means that your baby will be satisfied, because it will not part from you even for a single moment, while you would be able to simultaneously do other things apart from caring. The time has come to become a kangaroo!

USE NATURAL PRODUCTS

Look, we understand that it is much easier to take a stroll down to the supermarket and buy those incredibly toxic cleaners. However, you are now responsible for the life of another human being. The time has to come when you part with those disgusting products. Babies spend a lot of time on the floor, crawling and putting things in their mouths. You have to make sure that your home is baby-friendly! While cleaning, rely on natural products like baking soda, white vinegar, lemon juice, essential oils, etc. You really do not want to harm your baby by being incautious. Besides from this, all sharp objects and electronic devices should be out of the baby’s reach. We know you know this, but it is worth mentioning nevertheless.

Being smart, cautious, organized and helped is all you need. Still, prior to everything else, make sure you enjoy the time with your baby. Taking care of it should be your primary goal. Trust us when we say, your house will not have a problem with being in the second place.

We know that having a newborn in the house can be overwhelming and even paralyzing at times. Especially if you are new to parenting, a lot of time is needed to actually catch up with what is realistic to expect and to do. In the meantime, while you are trying to figure out how to organize your time, why not hire someone who can help you deal with at least some of your chores. Helpling – SG provides people who are in the same situation as you, with extremely reliable and efficient home cleaners. Besides, when will you find the time for rest and relaxation if every second of your life is devoted to caring and doing chores? We think it would be prudent to hire someone to assist you, at least in the beginning. Maids can play a very important role in your life, so we would advise you to give someone that chance of being your helping hand.
