I am totally excited to have my amazing friend Courtney guest posting on the blog today as I recover from surgery. You may remember Courtney from Isn’t She Just Darling, the profile I did on her awhile back. She is a huge Disney fan and wants to share her experiences with you. Today is the first part in a two part series of fun and expensive things to experience at Disney.Today she is going to continue telling you about some more inexpensive and free fun things to experience at Disney. Disney’s resorts offer some amazing things :The Yacht club offers a free beach fire w/ marshmallow roasting and a movie under the stars . – you can walk to the Yacht club from the boardwalk .

At Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can walk out to the viewing areas and see the exotic African animals roaming free. Note that the animals come out around dusk — you won’t see any during the day

At the Wilderness Lodge, a geyser a mini version of Old Faithful spouts on the hour from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. The geyser is located at the back of the property, past the pool.

Visit a Butterfly Garden (a patch of land planted to create a habitat that attracts butterflies) at one of the resorts. There are currently two that I know about: at Contemporary Resort, the garden is located on the left side as you walk out the back of the lobby towards the pool and lake; and at Ft. Wilderness, there is a garden outside the Outpost. You can call the Gardening Hotline at (407) 938-3900 for more information regarding butterfly gardens.

Downtown Disney- I say free but of course lots of shopping but the Lego sculptures are awesome , 3,000-square-foot outdoor play area filled with thousands of LEGOS .Tons of restaurants . They have create your own Carmel apples at Goofy’s Candy Store for $9.95 My favorite Once Upon a Store where you get to fill up a box with as much potato head parts that will fit in it for $20 it is great ! They have the coolest potato head parts. Think Tinker Bell Potato Head ! Visit the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop and enjoy a sundae (about $8.95) or shake (about $6.25). Go into the chocolate shop side of the store and they will usually give you a FREE chocolate sample! House of Blues frequently offers free live music at its Front Porch Bar – enjoy for the cost of a drink! (21 and over)Raglan Road often has free live music in the bar, particularly on weekends – enjoy for the cost of a drink! (21 and over) If you are staying on Disney property, you can use Disney transportation to get to Downtown Disney. If you are staying at a Downtown Disney hotel, you can take the bus or walk. Otherwise you’ll probably need to drive or take a taxi. Parking is FREE.

Ride the Monorail

Take the “inner” Monorail that circles the three Monorail resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian). This is a great way to get a look at the resorts and an overview of the Magic Kingdom. You can get off and explore each resort, or just enjoy the ride and the view. Cost to ride the Monorail: FREE.

Take a Boat Ride

Cruise the loop around Crescent Lake, which visits Epcot, Boardwalk, Yacht/Beach Club, Swan/Dolphin, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios without going into the parks.

Take the boat that visits the Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge and Ft. Wilderness, or the boat that visits the Polynesian, Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom (and you can get off at the Magic Kingdom and wander along the lake outside the gates, or hop on the monorail).

Cruise from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney and back, along the Sassagoula River.

Cost for any of the above: FREE.

Have fun (-Disney translation Have a Magical Time !)

AFM Courtney

Courtney Churakos is amazing person. My words cannot do her justice so I will let her words do the talking. “My search for balance between being a mom, having a career & a wife has been crazy at times, rewarding & certainly has its ups & downs! I started Coco Darlings in 2008 because I was looking for an interesting new business and planning parties has been a passion of mine for years. My daughter being the guinea pig of course! I inspired by my then six year old princess, I wanted to bring this same passion, fun, and magic to all the princesses of Goldsboro, NC… I have recently decided to return to my corporate job and devote myself to Coco Darlings. I feel empowered by my decision and want to take part, even if it’s just for a day, in sharing this empowerment with young girls in our community as well as the wonderful high school & college girls that work for me. Inspired by the time I spend with the children here at Coco’s and my love for all things Disney, I must visit Disney at least 3 times pr year and am excited to share years of travel tips and advice to anyone who is ready to travel to the most Magical Place on Earth!”
