Whirligigs and Weddings – A Unique Combination
I recently was invited to attend the Whirligig Wedding Showcase at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. All opinions are 100% mine.
Whirligigs and Weddings? What a weird combination right? But actually, it makes for a very unique setting for a wedding. Recently, I had a chance to check out this combination and I honestly can say that if the venue for my daughter’s wedding wasn’t already booked and sentimental reasons for our family, I would so book this venue.
What venue am I talking about? Well, I am glad you asked. It is the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park in Wilson, North Carolina. Wilson is just a hop, skip and a jump from where I live. So I was familiar with the Whirligigs before they moved to downtown Wilson, they were located in what some people call Acid Park. We actually visited them when they were there, a few years back, check it out here.
It is a really cool story, right? But the fact it was hidden down a country road, these amazing works of art were hard to find, believe it or not. They were moved to downtown Wilson, shortly before the artist Vollis Simpson’s death and made into a park.
Today the park hosts many events, free movies during the summer, film festivals, music and most recently they held a Whirligig Wedding Showcase with several local vendors from Wilson participating.
They had the place a showcase of not only the beautiful park but also of what a wedding reception might look like in the park and across from the kids’ gallery, which is another cool project I will highlight soon.
What impressed me the most about the park? Was not only the uniqueness of the park because let’s face it, it is so unique but how serene it was. We were in the middle of downtown and it was so quiet, except for when the wind kicked up and the majestic sound of the whirligigs spinning like one of Beethoven’s symphonies.
If you are ever in downtown Wilson, you need to find this hidden gem. And take a picnic lunch and just sit and listen to the melodies of the whirligigs.
Or if you are looking for a venue to host your wedding, corporate event or even a family reunion, think about the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park.
Oh, wow. This is DEFINITELY a unique wedding venue. I’ve not been to Wilson in years. I used to go through there on my way to and from ECU.
This is actually a neat idea. May be something we consider when renewing our vows next year!
What a neat venue idea! I wish I had known about it before we got married. I also never knew what a whirligig was, so this taught me something new 🙂
I love this concept. I love anything outside of the norm. I would totally choose this for my venue because it’s jjst a fun filled environment and perfect for the kiddies ?
I love this unique place for a wedding! I haven’t been to Wilson in years, but I remember the beautiful country spots it has.
We were married at the WhiriGig Park in Wilson on 04.01.22. I was wondering if any other wedding have taken place there. I think we may be the first one.
