So I Did A Thing Yesterday

I wasn’t a believer in Vision Boards when I created one this year. I just thought it would be something cool and fun to do with a friend. But folks, let me tell you being intentional about your goals is no joke.

Some of the things I put on my vision board were sayings like ” Go Big”, “Going Places” , “Dream” , “Don’t let Numbers Define You”, and “Out Here if you’re unsure of where the trail leads, you’re on the right path.”

This year is all about creating ( remember my word of the year is “Create” ) opportunities. So you can imagine my surprise when an email landed in my inbox Tuesday afternoon offering me a chance to make one of those dreams come true.

Sidenote: This year has been about building the brand and taking it to the next level. Well, yesterday I did just that.

Now back the email, it was from a PR company requesting that I appear on our local morning show, WRAL and share some camping hacks with them. I quickly texted my friend Emily with the words, should I do this and the answer was without hesitation yes.

So I quickly emailed back the company and agreed to do the segment. Then the nerves and negative self talk kicked in. I am sure going to mess it up and surely I was going to be an embarrasment to everyone I knew. But then I kicked that self-talk to the curb and said I am going to do this. And guess what I did.

We had to arrive at the WRAL Studios at 9:15 am so we left around 8 and started the drive in the ( wait for it) Chevy Malibu. With Gracie getting her license soon, and the Acadia being super bad on gas and a big milestone birthday coming up- hubby bought me an almost new car. I always wanted a blue car and now I have one. Okay so back the story, the GPS is hooked to my phone and sometimes we lost signal and got lost once because GPS you know. But we arrived a few minutes early, which allowed me to use the restroom and settle my nerves.

I didn’t go on until 9:45 am, but I needed time to set up my props. They had a table set up for me outdoors near the beautiful fountain. I got my props set up and waited. Finally, when Lena Tillett, the anchor for the show came out it was time to go LIVE. YEP, you read that right, it wasn’t a taped segment it was a live segment. Lena was such a sweetheart and totally put me at ease on camera. Before I knew it my segment was over and it was back to work as usual.

I honestly don’t think I could have gotten through this if it wasn’t for the behind the scenes people like Alex and Olivia, who told me to just have fun. And of course, I brought my own personal cheerleader, Gracie who was able to video the whole experience for me.

So as I sit here on the loveseat, in my blog cabin, I want to tell you that vision boards to do work. And I can’t wait to see what the last part of this year brings. So tell me what have you been up to lately?

  2. You look like a natural! Congratulations…and your vision board is really pretty. I have been toying with the idea of creating one.

  3. First of all congrats on your segment that is soooo exciting. Secondly, thank you for being so transparent and talking about the fears that come with getting new opportunities. I’m a new blogger and the process of creating and keeping up with it is definitely challenging. But when I read a post like your and seeing the opportunities that come with it keeps me motivated and keep going. I have been busy this summer networking and going to events and even having my own.
