Reflecting on Car Accident – 3 years later

car accident

Difficult to believe it has been three years since the accident. I still have soreness in my shoulder as well as some pain. If I knew then what I know now, everything would have been paid for, and I would not have been left footing the bill for what the guy who hit us Insurance didn’t cover.

I like most people thought that if I had insurance, everything would be okay. $50,000 later,  I have learned that is not the case. So if you are like me and thinking that, I want you to learn from my mistakes or should I say my ostrich with its head in the sand thinking, here is some advice.

First, obtain the services of a lawyer.  I will tell you I learned so much from our attorney. Not only did they handle all the headache of the insurance companies but also were able to negotiate settlements on all my medical bills.

He also taught me alot about insurance. I like most people thought it made sense to bundle all of our cars on one insurance policy. I know it is cheaper, but in the long run, it doesn’t help if the other person’s insurance company will only pay as much as their maximum. I learned that if you have a separate policy on at least one of your cars you can get a little bit more money.

Second, I learn not to wait to get checked out by your doctor. The night of the accident I was taken by ambulance to the ER, but after a week with no relief, I finally relented and went back to the doctor. This followed by multiple visits to a chiropractor and still, no relief led me to be referred to an orthopedic physician. This resulted in the diagnosis of a torn rotator cuff. I had months of physical therapy,  shots, and ultimately surgery.

Looking back I am thankful for our attorney, and his legal assistant because they did what was best for me,  their client, rather than what was best for them.

  1. Hi,
Excellent post! Last year I won my motorcycle accident injury case due to my attorney. He uses many tactics to won the case, and he did. Thank you so much for sharing this post.
