The Family Holiday Photoshoot: Tips That Will Make You “So Photogenic”
I am very honored to have the opportunity this Holiday season to share some amazing writing of fellow bloggers. Hope you enjoy this guest post.
Family holiday photos are a part of the tradition almost any family nurtures. In the end the results should be good enough to frame them and hang them on the wall, or even send them as holiday cards. Still, sometimes it is pretty hard to manage that perfect shot when everyone looks good on the photo. It is always that one person who has closed its eyes, or the one who is looking the other way, etc. Keep reading to for some family holiday photoshoot tips.
Since we are sure that you want that ideal photo worthy of a postcard, we will help you achieve it with a few of tricks that will make camera loves your (entire) family.
Choose Your Side
Before you choose the perspective from which the image will be taken, decide for your prettier side. Yes, everyone truly has it. Observe your face in front of the mirror and tilt your head mildly to each side, the one that looks more appealing for you is the winner. On the photo, look directly in the camera but repeat the mild head tilting and lean your head slightly towards the camera.
Choose the Perspective
If there is anything people hate on their portraits that is double chin. To avoid that, never take the photo from an angle bellow your chin. Instead, shoot down at a slightly higher angle. This perspective also makes your eyes pop and your body thinner. That is why wedding photographers sometimes shoot from chairs.
Avoid Blinking
Oh, the annoying situation of a sleeping person on the image. Getting caught with your eyes closed on New Year images is even more probable if your flash is on (turn off the flash and increase the ISO). Another neat trick is to look down until that moment when the photographer says “cheese”.
Choose a Location
The most typical locations for holiday photos are near the Christmas tree, in front of the fireplace, on the staircase or invest in some custom backdrops. Still, you can make it more fun by choosing something entirely different, like being outside in the nature: on the snow, in the woods, on a farm with animals, etc.
Consider the Lighting
If you have chosen some of the outdoor locations, you will have no problems. The natural lighting is not only the most convenient for the camera, but it is also the most flattering for the photo subjects.
The next best is soft, indirect artificial lighting. Standing directly under a light source will cast unappealing shadows (under-eye circles). Also, you should never stand directly in front of strong light source.
Choosing the Outfits
Think about coordinating outfits. We are not referring to matching, people still do it, but it quite dated. Instead coordinate colors and styles. For instance, you can all wear r ‘n’ r style or elegant outfits.
Another way you can do that is by choosing one color palette as you would do for a wedding venue for instance, and mix and match colors in a way that will make the transitions smooth. Try to skip having too many different patterns on the image, though.
Be Connected
Family photos are all about the connection between members of the family. Although everyone has that one posy image when they are looking directly into the camera, you should try to take some different shots, too.
The photos when the children are playing with each other, the partners are looking at each other or everyone is just having fun, are truly the best ones. It is because everyone is relaxed and confident. That is important, especially for kids.
In the end, because those photos will remain as valuable memories, you should really have timelessness on your mind, when it comes to hairstyles, clothing and photography trends.
