Our Journey to A New “Used” Car

Okay for those that are facebook followers you saw how we spent our Saturday afternoon. We bought a car. First let me tell you we had thought long and hard about this decision. We actually went to the car lot looking at the Chevy Venture that they had there. We had a Venture before we bought our Saturn and I loved it. The price was right for this car under $5000. We were looking to replace my husband’s 1995 Jeep Cherokee that we had bought used from one of his cousins for $1500.00 ( wait until I tell you what we got for trade on this.) We bought this Jeep over 10 years ago as a second car for us. It was at the point where it was falling apart the radio no longer worked, the lift gate air pump would not work and so forth and so on.  Here is the Jeep.

From the Side

The Front see Hubby saying Good Bye He had to clean it out.

And the back. For those Nascar fans yes the #8 was Dale Jr. and there is a #9 in the corner for Kasey Kahne .

So I looked good from the outside right but we had decided it was time to stop throwing money into it.

So with that said we went as I said before to look for a van. We wanted something with some extra seating room so if the girls wanted to bring a friend with me when we go on our outings they could.  The venture looked nice on the outside but the engine was nasty. Hubby being a mechanic he said that it was not worth the money we would pay for it. So then we started looking around the lot. This particular car lot was the one that we bought our first car at together some 18 years ago. So it is weird that we keep getting drawn back to it. We looked at several cars on the lot and but with the amount of money we wanted to pay and what we wanted our payments to be like. We only had a few options. Yea we could have gone for the newer van with the DVD system and everything but it is all about living within your means. So we decided on the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica . We went in there with the idea of what we wanted our payments to be. The dealer checked it out and came back with a quote that we were not so happy with. We told him that we wanted to get at least $1200 for the Jeep and payments around $150.00. He went back and redid some numbers and dropped the price of the vehicle and gave us the $1200 for the Jeep ( remember we paid $1500.00 for it 10 years ago- so it was like we actually only paid $300 for it with what we got for trade in) Here is a car buying tip for those who are looking to buy a car. Wait until around the end of the month to buy a car because car dealers have sales quotas they have to meet and they are more likely to deal with you. So we are now owners of the Pacifica. We got exactly what we wanted for the trade in and the payments for what we wanted and also we will have it paid off in 3 1/2 years.

Here is our new car. I am not sure which one I will be driving yet. Either this one or the 2006 Saturn Vue that we own.

Nice right?? What have you gotten a good deal on lately??

  1. One of the best things that you can do when looking for a good car dealer
is to simply ask around. Before you buy, get the VIN number off the vehicle and get a Carfax report on it.
Be armed with indisputable knowledge of the vehicles worth.
