One Last Weekend With My Girls Before the Wedding

This is a sponsored post. We were guests of the Durham Hilton.

My girl is married, what can I say I have so much to tell you about the wedding and the weeks before the wedding. I honestly have been struggling for several days about which story to write first. There are so many of them, it has taken me a few days ( who am I kidding a few weeks) to get my thoughts in order, and now I can finally sit down to tell you about the adventures down the aisle.

But where to begin, well let me just start with the weekend before the big day and more importantly the bachelorette party, this post will be up tomorrow, but today it is all about our hotel accommodations. We hadn’t really decided where we would have the party until I was contacted about doing a story on a Family Staycation at Hilton Durham. I knew immediately this is where we needed to hold the bachelorette party. So I quickly replied back and asked if instead of discussing a family staycation I could write about the last weekend with all three of my girls before the oldest got married. Of course, they were happy to accommodate my request.

I discussed dates with my girls, and we decided the weekend before the wedding was the best choice, so we were able to book a room with two queen beds for that Saturday. Mikaela, the maid of honor, decided that she wanted to book another room. ( You know just in case Mom couldn’t hang, which btw I totally proved her wrong). Plus Maddie wanted to include her other bridesmaid, Maria, in the festivities as well.

Darrell

So Mikaela, Gracie, and Maria ( the Bride Squad) drove up a few hours before we did to get her room ready. Maddie and I drove together a little later. When we arrived at the Durham Hilton, we were greeted by Darrell, the desk clerk. He was super helpful and couldn’t get over the fact that Maddie was getting married. We got our key and our luggage and made our way to the room.

Our room was one of their PURE allergy rooms with medical-grade air purification systems.  Which was super cool, because ever since Maddie moved to California, she has allergies. So being in an allergy-free room was terrific. I was impressed with the setup of the room.

We had a room overlooking a private courtyard, which if I had more time, I would have taken advantage of it to get some writing out of the way.

I mean, just look at the room. It did have an outdoor swimming pool, and we had thought about going swimming but time just got away from us. After all, we had a lot of things planned for our last weekend as a mom with three unmarried daughters.

So after we unpacked, and got ready, we headed back down to the lobby, to catch the shuttle to downtown which Darrell had told us about at check-in. I love that they offer a complimentary shuttle for their guests. No need to fight the hassle of parking or asking for directions.

Deryon

Our shuttle driver, Deryon, was super friendly. As we were waiting for the shuttle, we were taking group pictures. Of course, you know what happens when you want a picture of a group, one person ultimately has to take the picture. He saw that and offered to take a picture of the whole group for us. He dropped us off for our bachelorette adventure ( more on that tomorrow) and picked us up afterward. The shuttle only ran until 10 pm so we could have taken an uber back, but luckily we didn’t have to.

After we got back to the hotel, we continued the festivities at the Bluestone Bar & Grill with a drink before we headed back up to the rooms. When Dior, the bartender, came over she saw that Maddie had her bride to be sash on and told her Congratulations and she would buy her a drink to celebrate. After drinks, we went back to the room.

Dior

I can honestly say that I had an excellent night’s sleep at the hotel. ( And that is unusual because I usually can’t fall asleep there.) In the morning my friend Lucy joined us for breakfast at the hotel, and then it was time to check out.

Brandon

On our way to check out, we ran into Brandon, another employee at the hotel who was looking for one of the luggage carts. He saw that we had one that we were using for our luggage and decided he would just get that one after we were done with it. He rode back down on the elevator with us, chatting with us along the way and he even loaded our car for us. ( Which he didn’t have to do.)

All in all, our stay at the Durham Hilton was definitely memorable, from check-in to check out, the staff made sure that we were happy and I can honestly say that they went the extra mile for us.

If you are looking for a place for a family Staycation or just a place to get away for a few days the friendly staff at the Durham Hilton will make your visit feel like you are home and made our one last weekend before the wedding memorable.
