My Favorite Picture
Y’all know I am doing the ultimate blog challenge for the month of January. Each day, I get an email with a prompt for the day. Today’s prompt was to post my favorite picture. There were so many pictures that were floating around in my head, but it has been 8 years this month since my dad died from cancer due to the exposure to Agent Orange he got from serving in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. Along with that, he was also exposed to the contaminated water in Camp Lejeune. So, my thoughts have been on him lately. So I knew that my favorite picture would be this one.
This picture was taken when Gracie, my youngest, was in preschool. She is now 21. Most people didn’t see this side of my dad. He was a pillar in the community, and they got to see him interact with his grandkids. That tough Marine and Cop exterior would always show. But they didn’t get to see this silly side of him.
They didn’t see how all the grandkids had to do was ask him to play dress up, and he would. My girls knew that when their “Grampie” picked them up from any activity, whether it was from school or before school or even just for fun, there was always going to be food involved. He loved taking them out for breakfast and for ice cream.
So, for today’s prompt, I decided that although I have a lot of favorite pictures, I would honor my dad with this one.
Your dad certainly got a double whammy with the 2 contaminations! But his sense of humor must have kept him going!!
What a sweet tribute to your dad. This was a very nice read. Thank you.
Kate yes it did even when he was diagnosed in 1998 he still made sure the grandkids had fun
Thanks Karen. BTW I love your name. My dad was one in a million.
Wonderful photo and beautiful tribute to your Dad. My father has Parkinson’s Disease and my favorite pictures are of him dancing with his grandchildren. Such great times. He still loves to dance but a little slower now.
Elisa I love that your dad dances with his grandchildren. Here’s to many more years of dancing.
