I Can See Clearly Now

This post was made possible by a partnership with MyEyeDr.

I think that the greatest gift God ever gave a man is not the gift of sight but the gift of vision. Sight is a function of the eyes, but vision is a function of the heart. ~ Myles Munroe

I have never really given much thought about my vision. I thought the fact that having trouble at night driving was just something I would have to get used too, almost crippling me into not driving at all. But I can honestly say now, I am so glad that I didn’t listen to my inner voice telling me that there is nothing I could do about it because if I did when I was presented with the offer to work with MyEyeDr, I would have passed on it. Instead, I removed the shades from my eyes and that has made all the difference.

I can see clearly. I feel like shouting it from the rooftops how well I can see. But before I get to how cleary I can see let me tell you about our fantastic experience with our appointment at MyEyeDr.

Arrangements were made for both Gracie and I to get our eyes examined and select new glasses. I will admit that both of us were a little anxious as my grandma was legally blind, so walking into the office we were very anxious about what we would find out.

That anxiety didn’t stay long, as soon as we walked into the door of the office, we were greeted warmly by the staff there. They were super sweet and honestly made us feel so at ease that we couldn’t help but enjoy the experience.

Because we were a little early to the appointment, we were able to select frames that we would like to try on. Marlena was amazing. She helped us pick out frames that would complement our features but more on that later.

As you can see Gracie and I had fun picking out frames. In the beginning, I was picking out more than her, but she ended up beating me. As we were picking out frames, Brooke, called us back to do the preliminary tests before we saw Dr. Munz. She put us at ease and told us that we would not have to do the dreaded puff in the eye test. Thank God, neither one of us were looking forward to that. She also told us that because of the new retinal image technology. She was 99% sure that Dr. Munz would not have to dilate our eyes. ( Big load off of our minds.) I was so glad because I was thinking how in the heck was I going to drive home.

After we got all the prelimary stuff out of the way, we were put in the room. Gracie and I opted to be in the same room, because after all I was there to write a story and I couldn’t get pictures if we weren’t.

I totally found out that I am blind without my glasses. I mean I already knew that but didn’t know how bad. I couldn’t even read the biggest line on the eye chart without them. Yea, that bad. When it was time for Dr. Munz to come in, he quickly set us at ease.

He started talking about how he had been in practice for over 30 years but just recently decided to sell his practice to MyEyeDr so he could save for retirement. The eye exams for both of us went smoothly. Neither Gracie or I had anything major wrong even though, I did find out that I needed progressive lenses, which I knew was probably going to be the case.

Let me add that Gracie is normally very anxious when it comes to doctors due to some childhood illnesses. So you can imagine my surprise when we got in the car, and Gracie said: “You know what Mom, this was the best doctor, I have seen in a while.” That says a lot.

After we finished with our respective exams, we went back out to see Marlena to choose our glasses. I loved that Marlena gave us some fantastic suggestions. Because we both have long hair, she suggested that when we try on the glasses to not only take selfies but also think about the many different ways, we would style our hair. So I tried my glasses on with my hair up, down, and in a ponytail. That was a fantastic suggestion and with that, and the selfie suggestion, and I had it down to two pairs. Gracie had hers down to four,

And then it was down to asking the opinion of others. When I tried on the two pairs, they immediately told me which one they liked better. And with Gracie, it was the same way. Honestly, I really liked the pair I got but was on the fence about choosing them until both Gracie and Marlena said I looked the most comfortable with those frames on.

We opted for the blue light blocking feature on our glasses, and I opted out of the transition lenses. Frankly, because I think my blue eyes are my best feature and they were hidden by the transition lenses. Now they are out and proud.

It took us about 2 weeks to get our glasses. Let me rephrase that it took me about 2 weeks to get my glasses, Gracie’s were in within three days of the appointment. I guess because mine were progressive lenses and the prescription was a little more complicated, it took longer.

We went back into the office, the wait to get our glasses wasn’t long at all. Jennifer helped us with any adjustments that were needed and we were out the door. But let me tell you that both Gracie and I were shocked with the difference in our prescriptions. It left us both wondering how we ever saw anything.

I honestly would recommend MyEyeDr to anyone who is looking for a new eye doctor. They are located in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Midwest and Southeast United States. They offer comprehensive eye care services, a wide selection of designer and value prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses and standard and specialty prescription contact lenses. And if the other offices are like the one in Wake Forest, you won’t be disappointed by the staff or the service.

Don’t believe me? The above picture was taken as soon as we got in the car to drive home. I think the smiles say it all. What do you think?

  1. I like the frames you chose, they look so good! I can’t drive at night without my glasses, so I know how important getting a good pair is. Cool that they have blue light blocking on them, too. So helpful in order to get good sleep.

  2. Since I turned 40 my vision has declined. Gone are the days of looking at the menu without my glasses. We often take our vision for granted. I have come to really appreciate what I CAN see with my readers, so I won’t complain.
