In the current economy most people are desperately trying to save money; some have minimized or eliminated buying unnecessary items, others have reconsidered what is necessary and what is not, and some won’t buy anything unless they have a coupon or it is on sale.
People have become very innovative, some choose to make their own cleaning products, and weed killer, grow their own gardens and others have learned how to cook absolutely delicious meals at home, (and they are better than any restaurant food.)
When you look at the overall picture, we are starting to live like our parents and grandparents did!
Sometimes being frugal means spending more now to save a lot in the future. Lighting is a perfect example of this.
In the not so distant past, there was a huge push to use florescent lighting in the home. Florescent lights use much less electricity than incandescent bulbs, and they put out a decent light.
Currently the push is on led lights. It used to be that led lights were used only for Christmas trees and decorations. The lights were small and the lumen output was even smaller – about 300 lights would decently light up the tree!
However, the technology for led lighting has come a long way. Today incredibly bright led lights are available, to be used in businesses and homes alike.
Making the switch to led lights in the home can save a bundle on the electric bill, and they last an average of 60,000 hours!
Initially the cost for these lights is a little more than incandescent or florescent bulbs, but the long-term savings is great. By using these bulbs you will also be taking a giant step to aid in the ‘going green’ efforts.
Since the led bulbs are a little more expensive, you will probably want to replace your ‘old’ bulbs slowly. The wisest way is to replace the lights most used first. You will then realize ‘instant’ savings. – Check your utility bill!
