Common Mistakes when Packing for a Move

Moving is the worst, y’all. It’s so stressful taking your things from one place to another. Don’t even get me started on packing. It’s such a hassle to get everything away and organized. Hopefully, y’all can make it easier if you avoid these common mistakes when packing for a move.

Not Giving Yourself Enough Time

Y’all, I’m a procrastinator—especially when it comes to moving. Thinking about all the stuff I have to organize makes me not want to do it. However, y’all need to give yourself enough time to move. If you wait until the last minute, you’ll only stress yourself out more. Try packing a little bit at a time so that it isn’t so overwhelming. Look at the little tasks instead of the big picture, y’all.

Not Getting Rid of Stuff

I like to keep things, y’all. My kiddos school projects, old clothes I’ve worn once, my dog’s favorite toys. Yet, this habit doesn’t do me any good when it comes to moving. Learn from my mistake and get rid of things before you switch addresses. Donate old clothes to those in need so that they don’t just go to waste. You’ll do a good thing by clearing out your closet.

Not Getting the Right Equipment

There’s nothing worse than realizing you don’t have the right stuff when it comes time to move. Y’all need to avoid this common mistake when packing for a move and get the right stuff before the big day. Here are a few essentials you’ll need to have by your side:

  • Durable packing tape that’ll keep your packages secure during transit.
  • Different-sized boxes to accommodate all your things.
  • Snacks and water for those who are helping you move.
  • Cushioning for the car so that fragile packages don’t break as you drive from one place to another.
