Imagine being at the age of 14 you are a famous cartoonist, who not only has your own comic strip but also a line of gifts and collectibles. Can’t imagine it?? Well that the life that Emma T. Capps is living. She is the author of the famous comic series The Chapel Chronicles. The Chapel Chronicles is a 44 page book of hand drawn full color comics. It is also a weekly web comic and a collection of greeting cards and gifts. This comic takes an imaginative look at a young girl with a collection of fashionable hats, an obsession with Lady Gaga and her pet hedgehog. The young girl in the comics is 11 years old. This cartoon appeals to readers of all ages. Whether it be her fashion sense or her mom’s obsession with Justin Beiber, Capps makes sure to bring that aspect of modern society into her comic so that people of all ages can appreciate her sense of humor.

I love this comic. The artwork is beautifully done and the quirky sense of humor of this young lady is hilarious. My favorite comic was the one that she is caught at 2 am playing air guitar and listening to her iPod because she could not sleep. She tells her mom that she was sleep air guitaring. Now that sounds like something that my daughters would say.

The author Emma T. Capps writes the commentary for these comics as well. And what is even more amazing is that she writes them in both English and Spanish. She exhibited her comics in 2011 at the Alternative Press Expo in September and was the youngest exhibitor at the Museum of Comic’s Art MoCCA fest in April. She donated all the proceeds of this show to 826 Valencia, a San Francisco-based nonprofit youth writing center where she also teaches a comic book workshop. How cool is that???
