Ways To Reflect Your Personality in Your Home
Have I ever told y’all about the time I found myself at a fork in the road when designing my first house? You’d think I wouldn’t, but I did! I couldn’t decide if I wanted to be a cabin girl from the mountains or a slow-life, small-town-loving farmhouse girl. There were so many styles to pick from, and I felt overwhelmed picking just one. But y’all! My luck changed when I discovered that I couldn’t make this home sweet home without adding in my personality. I want to share with y’all the unique ways to reflect your personality in your home.
Mix Different Textiles
The first thing that tested me was textiles. I didn’t know where to start or what to pick, for that matter. Analyzing the aisles of textiles, I felt like I was living under a rock, not realizing there were more than one or two choices. I learned from a friend that textiles make a room feel great to be in.
I started by jotting down ideas that stuck out to me the most. I felt pulled to the checkerboard plaid and simple pillow designs with cliché sayings. These designs felt right to me, so I adapted them into my living room, bedroom, and porch. With these pillows, I felt myself getting defined as simple living.
Do Research Before Furniture Shopping
Once in a while, we need to treat ourselves, and I did that by updating my furniture. One of my favorite pastimes is antique shopping, and I took advantage of my passion by searching for items that would fit my home.
After researching, I found various stores around me that carried products of different styles. I found myself really enjoying the maximalism lifestyle. Since I had lots of room to spare, I reconfigured each to my taste. I turned one bedroom into a library, mostly because I have a lot of books.
I found that buying bookshelves and unique art pieces have positively shaped my personality. I’m not only a maximalist at heart but also a person who appreciates abstract art and needs a designated place to read my favorite books.
Renew Your Exterior Entryway
The last thing I thought about while finding ways to reflect my personality in a home was renewing my exterior. While the garden and everything else looked nice and represented my personality quite well, I thought about other things like my entryway.
Earlier, I wondered, “would it be possible to reflect my personality on my front door?” No, it couldn’t, right? Wrong! Oh, how wrong I was! After painting my front door, I found that painting the door can define your personality. You can be happy, bashful, passionate, and confident; all these things can get reflected in my door and yours. Y’all, I’d love to see how much of your personality you put into your homes.
