Travel the World by Train: How to Make the Most of Your Trip

Travel the World by Train_ How to Make the Most of Your Trip by North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Many people love to backpack their way around the world, whereas others love nothing more than to sign up for a guided tour, but did you know there’s another way to see the world? Travelling the world by train can be a wonderful way to see the sights and sounds of many different countries, and give you a real taste of what life in the respective countries is like. With this in mind, let’s take a look at some tips that could help to make your train journeys a lot more fun:

Travel as light as you can

While you may be tempted to take a lot of luggage with you traveling will be so much easier if you travel as light as you can. Although your luggage will be sitting in a train’s luggage rack a lot of the time, you will still have to cart it between platforms and hotels. Travelling as light as you can make your trip so much easier if you have just one suitcase with you.

Always book your seats

While you don’t usually have to pay to book a seat or two, it makes perfect sense to book your seats even if there is a small charge. Imagine having to find a new seat mid-journey if someone else has booked the one you’re sitting in. Booking a seat ensures there’s somewhere for you to sit on the train, and nine times out of ten you’ll get to sit where you want, such as in a window or aisle seat.

Make sure you have enough transfer time

Whether you’re making your way around Europe or you’re planning a trip of a lifetime on board the Rocky Mountaineer Train, you need to make sure you have enough transfer time between trains. Give yourself at least an hour between journeys so you can grab a coffee, freshen up, or simply stretch your legs a little. There will be delays from time to time, and this means that you could potentially miss a train should another one be held up. Give yourself at least one hour, and you won’t need to rush so much.

Buy your ticket before you get on the train

Most stations offer you the chance to buy a train ticket from someone in a kiosk or a ticket machine. While many people are happy to buy a ticket when they’re on the train, it could end up being an expensive way to travel. Tickets bought on the train tend to be a bit more expensive than they would otherwise be, so save yourself some cash and purchase them beforehand.

Know where you’re going

While most people tend to know where they’re going, and when they need to get off the train, not everyone does. One of the best things you can do to make your train journey easier is to work out where you need to be, and when you need to get off the train. Try to find out all of these details before you get on the train, not only will it mean you can relax as the train trundles along, but it also means you’re less likely to miss your stop.

Use the above tips to help you take the stress out of your journey so you can sit back, relax and watch the world go by.
