What are some of your favorite traditions? We all have them and they may just be more important than you think. I know we all have our holiday traditions. You know like putting up the tree the day after Thanksgiving, buying a new ornament each year, sending out vintage Christmas cards, opening one gift on Christmas Eve. or like us eating Sopes on Christmas Eve and have both sides of the family over. These are a special part of the holiday season. While we share many traditions, we also have unique twists on them. Every family has its own traditions, keep reading to see why traditions are important.

No matter what traditions you have – traditional, or quirky, they are the glue that binds us together. They give us a sense of belonging and help us make memories that will last forever. Think back on your favorite childhood memories, I honestly have so many that I can’t help but smile. Chances are that they are tied to Christmas traditions.

Another important aspect is that we share them with others. Creating and following through helps us strengthen and nurture relationships whether they be with your family or with friends. That’s why it’s so important to blend and come up with new family traditions as you start your own family. That was one of the things we did when we started having kids. We blended my American heritage with my husband’s Mexican heritage so our girls got the best of both worlds. We always had some friends of theirs over inviting them with a cute Christmas party invite.

Take a minute to think about your own holiday traditions. What do you do every year regardless of the season? Is there something you have to do or have or it doesn’t feel like Christmas? Cherish those traditions and pass them on to your children. If you don’t have a lot yet, there’s no better time than the present to start them. And don’t stop at Christmas. They can be shared throughout the year. Build a sandcastle during summer vacation, make Thursday night, pizza night, or play board games on the first Sunday of the month with friends, and,if you want to celebrate Christmas in July then do it. Embrace traditions and see for yourself how they can enrich your life and your relationships.
