What The 4th Means To Me

Today I am turning over the blog for a moment to my oldest daughter as she expresses in a short and sweet post what July 4th means to her.

Today is awesome, because today is Friday. However, today is an extra awesome day. Today, on July 4th, we celebrate our country’s Independence day. History was by no means my best subject in high school, but from memory and a shortened version of our country’s history is as follows: On July 2nd, 1776 our great country was just a baby tadpole. Finally spreading our American wings and separating from Great Britain. Gaining our independence and as a celebration of making it official the Declaration of Independence was born. Fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence, some were our founding fathers and many others were great men that contributed to our history. They all gathered around and signed this beautiful document on what we now celebrate on July 4th as our independence day.

My favorite thing about this holiday is having time to spend as a family. Today, we really are free. My parents are free from work. I am free from classes (I wish the food were free, but you can’t win them all). We spend this free time together and celebrate the independence that our great country has served us. Today, spend your free time with the ones who mean the most to you. Enjoy and happy July 4th!
Here is a little July 4th humor for you. Why doesn’t America have any knock knock jokes? Because Freedom rings.
