This post is brought to you by Sleep Number, because lack of sleep is a real struggle for most of us.

daylight saving tips

March 8th do you know what that day means? It means that we gain an extra hour of daylight which I love, but there is also the downside of losing an hour of sleep. Yep, I am talking about daylight saving time. Did you know that according to a new national sleep study from Sleep Number, over half (54%) of those who replied didn’t feel they are getting enough sleep to be at their best? I know that I currently suffer from lack of sleep. Here are some tips that I have found that help me when I can’t sleep.

  • Limit caffeine intake. Sometimes that is hard for me to do because as you know, I do love my Mt. Dew.
  • For me sleeping in a cold room works better than sleeping in a warm room. Temperature has a lot to do with how people sleep. I always love to snuggle under the blankets.
  • Put down those screens. You know what I am talking about those iPods, tablets, phones and TVs. The survey also indicated that people (51%) who use electronic devices in bed are more likely to feel that don’t get enough sleep. Did you know that people in the Western region are the biggest tech in bed offenders 66% admitted that they did that? Did you know that making your bedroom a screen-free zone an hour before you go to sleep, it gives the eyes and mind time to relax before sleep? It also allows the sleep hormone melatonin to trigger those sleepy eyes. I know I need to practice what I preach.
  • I also found living in the future helps as well. For instance, this Saturday I am going to live my life like it is an hour ahead, which shouldn’t be hard since the clock in the bedroom is already set an hour ahead. ( Don’t judge it works for me!) Like for an example, I love my iced coffee but it is one of the things that keep me up at night, so I will have my last cup at 11 am because consuming caffeine after noon can affect your sleep.
  • The last tip is that you need to monitor your sleep to improve it. Did you know that 58% of people wish they knew how to improve their sleep, but only 16% actually do something about it? And that woman are more likely to want to find out what they need to do to improve it?

The struggle to find the right sleep balance is real in my family. Not only do I suffer from it my youngest has epilepsy and when she doesn’t get enough sleep that can trigger a seizure. So I want to make sure she is healthy as well. So tell me how do you get ready for daylight saving time? Share your sleep tips with me.
