Summertime Fun for Your Family

Summertime Fun for Your Family from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

This is a sponsored post. Keeping your family entertained during the summer can be a challenge. Especially since I don’t think the country will be fully back to normal after the past year. So with that said Why not strengthen your family bond with activities that will satisfy your whole family at once? That way, you can enjoy quality time and create a memorable summer together before things back to normal (whatever that might mean or look for you. These fun summertime activities are sure to be a hit for both you and your kids:

Grow a garden

Completing a gardening project with your family will definitely feel rewarding, especially if you can see the fruit of your labor for a long time to come. Even if you live in an apartment or in the city you can still have a balcony garden. You can spend a few summer days planting flowers, fruits, and vegetables that you’ll all remember and be proud of in the months and years to come! And think of the satisfaction you will get when you eat a salad made with vegetables you grew.

You can also go shopping for gardening accessories like colored gloves, inscribed straw hats and patterned mud boots. If your children are small, you can even find kid-size garden tools like shovels and rakes to make it that much more fun. And if you are still leary about shopping in stores you can always let your fingers do the walking on the internet. Think of how fun you will have picking out accessories for each one of your children. And there is the added bonus that each child if you have more than one can pick out all their accessories in one color so they know which is theirs. No more fighting over whose it? That is an answer to any parent’s prayers.

After you’ve planted a garden with your kids, place an inscribed stepping-stone or other garden ornament in the garden to commemorate the occasion. If you have limited space you can always visit your local dollar tree and let each child pick out a small garden ornament as their own.

Enjoy a family beach day.

There’s really no better way to cool down on a hot summer day than with a trip to the beach. Instead of just “going to the beach,” why not make it an event? Make it memorable by spending time with the whole family! Remember it isn’t about spending money it is about spending time. You can pack a picnic and make a day of it. Any of the below activities won’t cost anything but your time.

  • Build a huge sandcastle together and take photos around it.
  • Play games like volleyball, soccer, and catch together instead of just sitting around  soaking up the sun.
  • Take the family dog along and create a memorable first-time event, but be sure that you carry plenty of water and a bowl for them because the beach can get pretty hot.

Pack a picnic in the park.

A quiet, relaxing picnic day at the park is the perfect way to spend quality time with the family. You can take in the beauty of nature that God Created and help get some Vitamin D at the same time. A few hours away from television and technology is just what you need for some summertime fun with the kids! Here are some fun activities you can do at the park.

  • Play Frisbee with your kids instead of watching them throw it at each other. Also, this would be a great way to sneak in some exercise, and if you bring the family dog along more power to you.
  • Carry your camera ( or your smartphone) and take family photos. Or just take photos of what you see in the park. I have been on many walks in parks and I have seen all kinds of wildlife.
  • Take along food that you can prepare together ( another way to spend quality time together), like tacos or PB&J sandwiches. Or if you are pressed for time you can go by and order some takeout. The last time Gracie and I went on an outdoor adventure together we made a charcuterie board– it was so easy and fun and everything was on one platter so we didn’t have a lot to carry.

Take a camping trip.

You’ll get to enjoy the company of your children in an unfamiliar environment and will even learn a few things about them and their abilities in the process! Camping also provides the opportunity for you and your kids to enjoy many out-of-the-ordinary activities together, like:

  • Putting up the tent.
  • Gathering wood and building a fire.
  • Roasting marshmallows. ( I mean who doesn’t love a toasted marshmallow.)
  • Telling stories while sitting around the campfire.

Summertime is the perfect time to really get to know your kids and create memories that will last a lifetime! Start today to make the memories of this summer ones that all of you will go back to time and time again. So tell me do you have any plans to make a balcony garden or to do anything else this summer? Let me know in the comments below I am always looking for some new ideas.
