The other day I wrote about the incredible book, The Grimm Chronicles Volume 1, I had the good fortune to read the sequel to this book. Normally sequels are not as good as the original but in this case it just gets better.
Here is a brief summary of Volume 2:
For 200 years, the hero’s magic pen has been passed on from generation to generation. The newest hero is Alice Goodenough, an 18-year-old junior from Washington High School. While her friends spent their summer working and having fun, Alice found herself doing battle with creatures most human beings don’t even realize exist. A giant snake. A blood-sucking prince. A terrifying half-man, half-hedgehog. Dastardly dwarfs intent on mind-controlling everyone who uses a cell phone.
Now, senior year has begun. With it comes a new challenge at school, where bullies have grown bolder and classes more challenging. As if that’s not enough, Alice must face off against a collection of Corrupted who all share a terrible secret, one that might awaken a
creature capable of doing untold damage. To uncover the secret, Alice will have to face off against a man-eating lizard, a bloodthirsty sea captain, and a mysterious wizard who can see into the future …
Picking up where the first book left off, Alice is a much a stronger character. She struggles with the choice of whether or not to continue on her journey as the hero. I absolutely love Alice. She is a very strong character, who is confident with who is she. This is a great role model for any teenage girl. Instead of bowing to peer pressure, Alice rises up against it and soon learns she is not the only one who cares.
I love the pack of people that Alice surrounds herself with. From the boy she grew up with, to a new found friend who has overcome a tragedy of his own to of course  Br’er Rabbit. He is still the same mischievous rabbit he was in the first book.
I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a mixture of fantasy and reality and how the two worlds meet. This sequel is just as good as the first one.
