Soccer At It’s Finest

DSCN7180As many of you know, we are big soccer fans. Both of the older girls play soccer for their high school. Maddie, the oldest has just finished out her high school career being named all conference and MVP for her team. She plays the position of sweeper. If you unfamiliar with what this position is then here it is in a nutshell. If you have ever watched a soccer game, there is a person who usually hangs back with the goalie, they are the last line of defense before the goalie. Mikaela, my other daughter plays forward. She is responsible for getting the ball down the field and scoring if she has a chance. So with that said, we had a chance last night to attend a soccer game near our home. Chivas USA (which is one of my husband’s favorite teams) came to play our local team The Carolina Railhawks. We have attended Railhawks in the past but we have always sat on the side of the players but this time we decided to experience the game from the other side of the field, which wasn’t a bad idea because it had been a year since we last attended a game and the stadium had changed quite a bit. We were right next to wear the players came out onto the field. I did not know that when I ordered the tickets, so that was pure luck.

I will have to say that the first thing I noticed was to see if the players that I had interviewed in my series about the RailHawks which you can find here, here, and here. The hometown hero was Justin Willis he hails from Raleigh, and I was excited to see that only was he playing last night but he was also starting. I was able to snap this picture of him on the field.

I was so amazed at his playing skills. Of course my girls had their favorites as well. Last year, Mikaela watched the goalies practiced and she liked their backup goalie Akira Fitzgerald. Well this year he was backup no more. He started the game. Here is a picture I snapped of him before the game.

The Carolina RailHawks are a wonderful team and normally we would cheer for them, but it is not often that we get to see Chivas USA playing so my girls were all for Chivas. They dressed in their Chivas jerseys and made a sign with their friend, Bri (another soccer player) to take to the game.

Here are just a few of the shots I snapped during the game. If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram I posted more last night.

And the last image I want to leave you with is the smiling faces of my three girls posing with their poster with all their Chivas USA players signatures. This made up for Chivas USA losing to the RailHawks 3-1.
