Loving Day commemorates the anniversary of the June 12, 1967, Supreme Court civil rights landmark decision Loving v. Virginia and pays tribute to Richard and Mildred Loving. And now there is a film coming out in the Fall from acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special, Mud, Take Shelter), Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), whose civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court. You can read more about the case here.

I think this would be an interesting film not only to see the culture of the 60’s but also to see how far we have come as a country and how far we still have left to go. I am amazed that the racial tension in this country is still around. There will always be those that we don’t agree with but just because we don’t agree with them doesn’t mean that we should hate.

I have always taught my girls that the skin color of a person shouldn’t be a deciding factor in choosing a person to love it should be the way they treated them. I can tell you that this is one movie that I am waiting impatiently to come out because this will be a must see movie for my girls and me to see.

So today I challenge you to take to social media and use the hashtags #THISISLOVING and tag @thelovingfilm to show that all love should be created equal.
