Pillowcases as Curtains
I have been busy working on my house in and out. I have shown the garden but I have also been doing a little thing here and there. One of the things that I have done was replace my bedroom curtains and redoing the whole look of the master bedroom. I have black and white with several pops of color. What started all of this?? Why freecycling is what started it? I was able to pick up a set of purple curtains from this site. So I put those up but I had a hard time finding a valance or topper that I liked. So I thought okay I will just sew one but that turned out to be an adventure itself. So while shopping at Wal-Mart one day I came up with plan. Pillowcases as valances. I know what you are thinking what?? But just follow these little steps and you will have a no sew valance for 2 windows for $5.00.
This is what it looked liked after I put the purple curtains up but before I replaced the valances.
Yep those old valances just don’t look right with the purple curtains.
First go to your local store and buy a set of pillowcases.
I got the pillowcases at Wal-Mart for $5.00 for a pair.
I then took the pillowcases cut down the seam to make one long piece of fabric.
See the cut. This is what you end up with after you cut down one side and the bottom leaving the other side intact.
One big long piece of fabric. I tried sewing to make a pocket for the curtain rod but my sewing machine would not cooperate. LOL So then I said let me try this idea. I draped the fabric over the curtain rod and viola new valances. Can you tell that they have not been sewn?
I love how it sets off the purple in the room. And believe it or not this has saved us on our air conditioning bill already. LOL So what have you done lately to save money?
