Not A Teenager Anymore
As a mom a day that I knew would eventually come has happened. My oldest has moved into her own apartment. I have so many mixed feelings about this. As a mom, I want to protect my baby but then also as a mom I can’t help but be proud of all that she accomplishing before the age of twenty.
She has always been very wise and mature for her age. She knows how to save and how to hunt for a bargain. At the age of 2 she was having full-blown conversations with adults even though she called herself “Mannie” instead of Maddie.
Now that she has moved out on her own I made sure she knows how important it is when it comes to making sure that she has everything covered financially. Sometimes being an adult comes with a lot of responsibilities. She now has to pay her part of the water, lights, and rent as well making sure she has gas in her car to her back and forth to class.
I told her the best thing that she could do is go and research budget worksheets and print one-off for each month. Then I suggested that she pay the biggest bill first which would be her rent and then her utilities bills after that. Although she is still technically a teenager until next week she has chosen to go this route earlier than some.
And next week that little girl who called herself Mannie instead of Maddie will be 20 years old. It is hard to believe how much she has grown up. Monday we spent the Labor Day holiday with her and as I watched her playing Giant Jenga with her boyfriend, Lex and her little sister Gracie I was taken aback by how much she has really grown up in the past year.
She has taken on the responsibility of being on her own so wonderfully that I can’t help but be proud but at the same time sad as she isn’t my little baby anymore. So early Happy Birthday Sweetheart and know that Daddy and I are so proud of you .
