New Years Safety Tips by North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Being a mom of girls I worry sometimes about their safety especially now that Maddie and Mikaela are away at college. Where they park their cars and the buildings were their classes are held it is a bit of a walk. So sometimes I fear for their safety. ( I know what mom doesn’t but being a daughter of a cop I want to make sure they are safe because of all the horror stories that I have heard.)
So here are some safety tips for college students.

  • Park in a well-lit area. Get as close to your building you can.
  • If you have to park far away, check and see if your college has a safe ride. When I was at school, all we had to do was call and let our campus police know we needed an escort back to our dorm.
  • Always walk with your keys in your hand, Have the key pointing out. If something does happen you will at least have something to defend yourself with and keys are pretty sharp.
  • Going with the tip to keep your keys out don’t be distracted. You are easy prey if you are fumbling around in your backpack, purse or pocket for your keys. You are an easy target because you are distracted.
  • Have a buddy if you have to go someplace late at night.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. If anything looks sketchy than take your out of the situation immediately. If you feel you are being followed duck into the nearest location where there are a lot of people,
  • As soon as you get to your car, unlock it and immediately get in. And then immediately lock the car. ( I know that you are probably thinking that my car locks itself.) And yes that is true but sometimes you have to drive for a little while before it will lock.
  • Carry Sabre PepperSpray.
