Midweek Moment: Out of Gas Again

Your kidding me! I’m out of gas again! It was my very first car, a pickled green colored Pinto. When you pressed the button for the windshield wiper fluid, oil would protrude out onto the glass… and then there was the door. I would steer with one hand & hold the driver’s door shut with the other hand & a piece of rope. I called it the Hulk & it was nothing short of a jalopy. I can’t tell you how many times I left the keys in the car just hoping someone would take it! Above all, I was notorious for giving out of gas. I was known to press my luck and put a dollar of gas in the car daily with hopes of getting back and forth to school . It never failed I always underestimated my distance & gave out of gas. After panic walking a few times in high heels carrying a very embarrasing red gas can, I came to a very smart conclusion, Beverly you just can’t get anywhere without gas! Can I be candid? I sometimes have to remind myself of this very thing even in my personal life, Beverly you just can’t get anywhere without gas! You see at times I seem to get my priorities a little out of line with kids, PTA, hobbies, volunteer work, even church activities & I forget the most important things ,taking time for God & my spouse. That is when the Holy Spirit quickens & reminds me my gauge is running low & I need to pump in some high octane spiritual fuel. I have to get in the word, pray, & seek the presence of God. A Christian that is not refueled will just sputter out just like my old green Pinto. Well here goes the part in the devotion where I step on my toes! OUCH, sometimes I just need to slow down & spend a little uninterrupted couch time with my hubby. No electronics, phone or chattery voices to drown out our conversation. It is then that I recognize the importance of fueling up the LOVE tank. A marriage that is not refueled will sputter out. I refuse to allow Satan to persuade me to live off of just fumes!!

“Be careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…” Ephesians 5:15-17
