How To Renovate Your Kitchen on a Tight Budget
Is there a room in your house y’all use more than the kitchen? Not for me. The kitchen is where life happens in our home, and I’ve done my share of renovations through the years. If yours looks like it was born a few decades ago, it might be time for a facelift (not you—the kitchen). Spending money on renovations is often the last thing we want to do. Thankfully, you can renovate your kitchen on a tight budget and still give yourself and the family a brand-new space to enjoy. If that piques your interest, read on.
Get Painting
Few things are a cure-all for life’s problems, but I think paint is pretty close. With a brush and a gallon of glorious color, you can drastically change a room. When renovating your kitchen, the first thing to do if you like to save money is to paint the walls and cabinets. Here are some ideas for painting the walls and cabinets:
- Create contrast with dark walls and light cabinets.
- Paint the top cabinets one color and the bottom cabinets another.
- Paint everything—the walls and the cabinets—white.
Paint will quickly give your kitchen a new look. Just take the doors and faces off the cabinets and drawers to paint them before putting them back on. Also, investing in a paint sprayer for cabinetry is a lifesaver.
Change the Hardware
Whether you keep the old cabinets as is or paint them, installing new cabinet hardware is a really easy way to make a small change that has a big impact. You can also remove your old hardware and spray-paint it for even more cost savings.
Epoxy the Countertops
Who doesn’t love beautiful new counters? I sure do. Here’s the thing: installing new counters isn’t an option if you want to spend as little as possible when renovating. Instead of buying new countertops, try your hand at an epoxy creation. You can transform your countertop using mica powder, and everyone will think you spent your life’s savings on elaborate kitchen renovations. The mica powder mixes with the resin to add swirls of stunning color, and then you pour the mixture directly onto an old counter after priming. The results are beautiful and provide huge cost savings.
Install New Flooring
Since y’all are saving money in other areas of the kitchen, consider spending a bit more on new flooring. Kitchen spaces aren’t usually big, and choosing an inexpensive flooring option, like vinyl, can update the kitchen in a day at a low cost.
Renovating your kitchen on a tight budget is possible. Use these ideas and see what else y’all can come up with. Happy renovating!
