Tips for Decorating Your Living Room When You Have a Family

Tips for Decorating Your Living Room When You Have a Family from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

I don’t know about y’all, but my living room is the ultimate hang out spot. We all fight over the remote, and the kids groan when my hubby flips on ESPN. Since we usually have so much fun in there, I never really stopped to take a look around the space. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when the kids were playing in the yard that I realized how desperately I needed to update things. Read my tips for decorating your living room when you have a family. With some slight sprucing up, you can have peace of mind while you’re chilling in your favorite spot.

Storage Is Everything

I love my kids, but man, are they messy! Storage is everything when creating a family-friendly living room because parents need a place to put their kids’ toys. I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone when thinking about storage options, though. I didn’t want to install shelves and be like every other cookie-cutter home on the block. Instead, I purchased a few decorative baskets where I could tuck things away. I love these accessories, y’all! The room is now clutter-free and super stylish.

Artwork

Sometimes artwork can make a room feel too stuffy. Admittedly, I’ve walked into a girlfriend’s home and felt out of place based on her choice of paintings. However, there’s a way to make artwork enjoyable for the whole family. One option is to browse through local thrift stores once things open back up. My family and I did this before the pandemic hit. Each of my children picked out their favorite painting, and we hung the winners on a wall in the living room. The space looks so lively now, and we all get a kick out of seeing our favorite works of art every day.

Plush Furniture & Fun Accents

Another pro tip for decorating your living room when you have a family is to buy comfy furniture. One time, in an effort to be more sophisticated, I bought a swanky armchair. I returned it two days later because my kids wouldn’t stop complaining about how uncomfortable it was. That’s why, when I did my online shopping a few weeks ago, I made sure I only bought plush pieces. I also got a warranty in case the rest of the fam was unhappy. Finally, I purchased some detailed throw pillows to add some dimension to the space.
