When it comes to health and safety, many of us do not consider it harmful to use toxic cleaners to clean our kitchen, bathrooms, windows, and carpets. In fact, most of us rely on expensive commercial cleaning products. We often neglect the fact that when these chemical solutions come in contact with the body regularly, they can cause allergies and infections.

Carpet cleaners are one of these commercial cleaning solutions that we use daily for different reasons.  They contain chemicals, like bleaches, alcohol, hydroxyacetic, monohexyl ether, enzymes, and butoxyethanol. All these chemicals are hazardous for the skin and lungs.

However, these commercially-made carpet cleaning solutions are not the only way to remove stubborn stains. There are a plethora of DIY nontoxic carpet cleaners that can work wonders on the dirty carpet and tough messes.

Not only do these natural cleaners help you remove the stains but also get rid of bad odors. Plus, using a natural carpet cleaner can prevent discoloration and damage to carpet material, which is not possible when you use commercial carpet cleaners.

If you’re tired of spending money on expensive carpet cleaning solutions, try out this easy-to-whip up, non-toxic, homemade carpet cleaner.

Natural Toxic-free Carpet Cleaner

Vinegar and Salt Solution

This is one of the easiest natural carpet cleaners you can make at home. It uses three common items from your pantry. It is cheap, but can really do the trick.

Ingredients:

  • White Vinegar

This powerful ingredient has exceptional cleaning properties when it comes to removing tough stains, especially if they are pet stains. The deodorizing property of white vinegar helps you get rid of unpleasant smells.

However, make sure that you dilute the white vinegar with water to suppress its acidic properties. Another great aspect of using white vinegar is that you can use it on multiple fabrics.

  • Salt

You need salt to add in this natural carpet cleaning solution to bind up the tough stains. If stains are really tough, like ink, cranberry juice, or red wine, leave some salt on them for 15 to 20 minutes to absorb the liquid.

  • Lavender Essential oil

The last ingredient you will need to prepare this non-toxic carpet cleaner is lavender oil.  Not only does it give this solution a pleasant smell but also gets rid of viruses and bacteria lurking in your carpet. The versatile essential oil is non-toxic and safe to use.

How to Use

Mix all these ingredients well and blot up the liquid on the stains to prevent them from setting. Do not rub the liquid on stains. Spray water and remove them gently.

Vinegar-Baking Soda Carpet Cleaner

This carpet cleaner is another variation of the vinegar solution. It is inexpensive, simple, and gives you wonderful results by removing urine and blood stains. Vinegar, when combined with baking soda, makes a miraculous solution that doesn’t only remove the stains but also kills odors.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of white distilled vinegar
  • 2 cups of water
  • 4 tablespoons of baking soda

 How to Use

Add all the ingredients accordingly and spray on the stain. Let it sit for 5 minutes and gently rub with a soft cloth.

Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide Mixture

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful substance which breaks down the stain molecules and is great in pulling out them. When you combine it with a natural deodorant –baking soda, it makes an amazing cleaning solution for carpet stains.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • A ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 tablespoon eco-friendly dish liquid

How to Use

Mix hydrogen peroxide and dish liquid well in a plastic bowl. Cover the stains with rags and a paper towel and walk lightly over it. You can place something heavy on the top. It will help you soak up the excess liquid in the stain.

Pour a handful of baking soda on the stain and slowly pour the cleaning solution on it. Scrub it gently with a scrub brush and leave it for 15 minutes. For removing tough stains, repeat the steps.

It is another easy-to-make carpet cleaning solution that can help break down odors and stains.
