How to Keep Your Carpets Clean as a Busy Mom

As a busy mom, your time is limited. If you’re working, you’ve got to balance your work with your motherly duties. If you’re a stay-at-home mom, you’ve got plenty of home chores to keep you busy.

When you’ve got your hands full (literally if you’ve got a young baby!), it can be difficult to find time to clean your home. While you might have time to quickly wipe down the kitchen surfaces after cooking dinner, you might struggle to find time for the larger cleaning tasks.

One of the biggest things to clean in the home is the carpets. They’re easily forgotten about when you’re cleaning and you might find yourself putting this task off for a while.

However, it’s recommended that you clean your carpets every six to twelve months if you have a baby or young child. Below, we’re going to cover some simple things that you can do to keep your carpets nice and clean as a busy mom with a tight schedule.

Use a Strong Carpet Cleaner

Treat yourself to a great carpet cleaner that has a counter rotating brush to power through tough stains and dirt. Instead of getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing the carpet for hours, you can clean every carpet in your home within the hour using a powerful carpet cleaning machine.

They are great to use in areas of your home that receive a high volume of foot traffic or the areas where your kids like to play with messy paints and toys. You can also use your carpet cleaner on hard surfaces too, such as the tiles in your kitchen or bathroom.

Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is one of the most well-known and well-loved floor cleaning hacks. It’s a powerful substance that makes the perfect alternative to strong cleaning chemicals, which you might not want to use around a baby or young child.

All you need to do is lightly sprinkle baking soda across your carpets and leave it to clean your carpets for 2-3 hours. Once you’ve quickly wiped them down using a sponge and warm water, your carpets will be sparkling clean.

Vinegar

If you don’t have any baking powder in your cupboards, you can use vinegar to remove stains from your carpets. It’s another powerful home cleaning remedy that doesn’t require you to use any strong chemicals and detergents.

Vinegar removes odors and stains from carpets but you need to be careful when using it on your floors. You can’t just pour it freehand across your carpets. Vinegar is very acidic so you need to dilute it using water (we recommend using one part vinegar, three parts water) to avoid damaging your carpets.

Spray the vinegar lightly across your floors and leave the vinegar to do its thing for around one hour before blotting off the excess with a clean cloth (avoid wiping or rubbing it into your carpet). You can follow up with baking soda if there are any stubborn stains that you want to remove.
