Holiday Open House Spurs Ideas
Recently I was invited to share an evening with two friends who were attending a holiday open house at one of our local stores. I have always shied away from this store because it is a little pricey and with the girls we basically could not afford shopping there, but an open house that was free and open to the public I was all there.
My husband is a master builder; he can make anything just by looking at a picture. So he knows when I come walking toward him with a picture, I want him to make something for me. With that said I love to look at holiday decorations and see if I can (or should I say he can) make it them for less. With this in mind, I went with my friends with camera in tow.
I was able to snap some really cute ideas for maybe future blog posts but most importantly for future holiday decorations for our yard and our house. The first thing I saw when I walked up to this store was this cute little reindeer sticking out of a plant. How cute is he??
I know that this cutie or our own version of it will soon be making its home in my yard. We are thinking that this is going to be my mom’s Christmas present from us as well??
Anything that is made from metal is fair game as far as I am concerned. And these metal trees and owls are no exception to the rule. I am going to see if he can make these trees as well but the owl I am going to make a bigger version from pizza pans.
These trees are too cute as well, I know that they are made from metal, but I am going to see if I can recreate these out of plastic funnels. That is if they sell them anymore, I will admit that it has been a long time since I have had to use a funnel.
With all the building projects that we always seem to have going on, we always have scrap wood. I love the many possibilities of wood. I found several pieces made from wood that I want to recreate. Just look at the simple design of the tree, basically it is just a wood triangle with a hole drilled in it for dowel and stuck in another piece of wood.
The snowman chalkboard was a cute thing to make as well; I can see that having a place in my kitchen as well as in the classroom.
And the little let it snow snowman will hopefully soon become part of our holiday décor.
There are so many ornaments as well that can be recreated for a cheaper price as well. I cannot wait to get crafting and start to decorate for the holiday season. This Christmas Open house was just what I needed to get into the holiday spirit and start those creative juices flowing even if they belong to my husband. So what have you seen in stores that you have come to home and created for less.
