Getting Photoshoot Ready
This is a paid partnership.

I have never been one to want to be in front of the camera, in the past behind the scenes is where I would be. But when I turned 50 a few years ago something clicked inside my head and I let go of the anxiety that being in front of the camera caused me. I know it seems simple but I am actually getting comfortable being in front of the camera. Not only do I host a podcast but I also actively search out new ways to get my photos taken now. Funny how turning 50 can just make some things go away. Whether I am interviewing some new on the podcast or getting photoshoot ready, there are always several things I do to make myself photo ready that I want to share with you.

First, I think about what I am going to wear for the shoot. I know sometimes that may sound easy enough but I always have backup plans just in case the outfit that envisioned wasn’t exactly what I envisioned when I put it on. Next, I pick out my jewelry, of course, the wedding rings are always in the mix but I like to change out my other accessories. I tend to like simple 14K gold necklaces because they don’t distract from the overall photo.
And of course, there is always a dress or some combination of outfits involved in the mix. And sometimes I add something fun like a hat. In the past couple of months, I have had several photoshoots in places that have come to mean a lot to me. Let me add the location of the photoshoot will also determine the outfit idea as well.

For this fall photoshoot, I choose a dress I had brought from Jane. And added in a cute hat that I also got from there and the trusty grey booties that I bought many years ago from Payless. This was a more earthy look as I was getting my photos taken at Odom Farming Company, a place that has been the location for many photoshoots.
The outfit just worked there.

But for my photoshoot in Downtown Goldsboro, which is decorated for Christmas, I chose a simple burgundy dress with my black boots that might I add I also got from Jane. I grabbed a few props from the blog cabin like my travel mug from Well Told, the blessed sign I painted, and the angel that reminds me to believe.

Of course, getting photoshoot ready isn’t just about the outfits and locations, it is also about the overall look. I planned the photoshoots to take place on days that I had a hair appointment and my youngest daughter is always on point when it comes to doing my makeup and nails. I know it may seem silly but the overall confidence I feel because of this comes across in the photos.
So tell me how do you get photoshoot ready?
