Getting Creative with Tortillas

Getting Creative with Tortillas from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Tortillas are extremely versatile, but you have to use your imagination to make the most of them. They’re easy to make and can provide a healthy and nutritious meal to any member of your family. If you’ve run out of ideas but you’d still want to try out as many tortilla recipes as possible, check out the tips below.

Try tortilla as a dessert

You don’t know what you are missing out on if you have never eaten tortilla as a dessert. The simplest recipe you can rely on in this sense is a Nutella breakfast roll-up. In actuality, all you have to do is smear some chocolate spread on a tortilla and then roll it on a peeled banana. You can either eat it like so or cut it into 1-inch thick sections.

Next up, we have French toast wraps filled with fruit. You can either go light by filling these with yogurt and berries, or you can go all out by using strawberries and cream. There’s also nothing stopping you from making some simple tortilla French toast, you know.

Crust & cups

One other idea you can always go with is to use a tortilla as a crust for your next quiche. The neat thing about this recipe is that it can be gluten-free depending on the fillings that you are going to use. As you know, tortillas aren’t made with regular flour. A great help for my tortillas is an appliance that allows me to make them in as little time as possible.

You can also use tortillas to make Huevos Rancheros. You’ll have to use ramekins for this to press each tortilla into them. If the sides of the tortillas can’t be folded easily, you might have to warm them up in the microwave. As for the filling, you can use pinto beans, eggs, Monterey Jack cheese, and of course, several large eggs. You can decorate everything with a little salsa or green onions.

Snacks

Another thing you can do with tortillas is mini pizzas. Basically, you’re going to need a half can to cut out rounds from the tortillas and then use them as the base. You can rely on your most trustworthy muffin pan to add the bases and then the rest of the ingredients (sauce, cheese, and pepperoni). These are going to come out pretty small, though, so they might work better as snacks than main dishes.

It goes without saying that you can also bake your own tortilla chips and add any kind of condiment or seasoning to them you’d like. Baking them also makes them healthier, so you won’t have to get those artificial-tasting ones from the stores to enjoy a couple of snacks when you’re watching a game with the rest of your family.

Other things you could do with tortillas range from spinach and artichoke dips in tortilla cups to asparagus cigars. The bottom line is that if you get creative, you can make heaps and heaps of dishes with this Mexican wrap.
