Garden Remake

We recently underwent a major facelift in the front of our house at our entry way. It all started when I decided that our walkway would look better paved. Before we had rocks framed by bricks and stepping stones but it wasn’t good for bare feet. After we mortar mixed the walkway, it just looked funny with just a little space between the tree that you see in the upper left-hand corner and the walkway. We were going to extend the flower bed around the tree to the walkway. But then we thought what a pain it would be to mow the grass, so then came the big makeover. This is just the starting picture. It took us about 2 weeks working here and there to finish the garden. Follow the progress in the following pictures.

Here we have the mulch that we laid and some of the flowers that we set out. Here is a frugal tip check your local home and garden store for marked down plants. More than likely with a little bit of TLC you can bring those plants back to life, and you will have a beautiful garden for half the price.

Notice the chairs and the table with no top in the background. The table was a bird bath / planter that we are remaking into a table.

They don’t look like much do they? My hubby had wanted to throw these chairs out, but I talked him into letting us remake them. Watch the transformation.

Topiary anybody? You would expect to pay between $20 to $50 per tree. But this cost me nothing. Making your topiary trees are easy. Can you guess that this was a tomato cage? I will show how to make one of your own in a future blog post.

Here Raul cut a piece of wood into a circle, and he is attaching it to the top of the planter with small screws. The plywood was left over from a scrap project. We then sprayed it with black spray paint.

Remember those chairs, with leftover wood Raul was able to make seats, and then I took some stadium cushions and an old shower curtain to cover the wood and make these chairs pop.  (Frugal tip- sometimes it is cheaper to buy a shower curtain or sheets than to buy material by the yard)  A fresh coat of black paint and the pillows I made here, give these old chairs new life.

Here are the chairs with the table. The table at this point had not been spray painted.

Here is what it looks like now from the front door. All the material we used was either given to us, bought on sale or recycled items that we repurposed.

The table’s finished look. I loved the plant shelf at the bottom.

Now this is what it looks like from the street.

Well, what do you think?? Is it inviting or not?? This is just one of the many projects that I have been working on this past couple of weeks. Look for more home improvement posts and tips are coming soon. The total cost for all of this was $100.  Labor was priceless. LOL You see you don’t have to pay a ton of money to make your house look like a million bucks.
