Disaster Strikes

A few years ago we lived in an old doublewide trailer that came with my husband’s job. It was small but it was all we needed when there were only 4 of us. Being an older home things were in the oddest places. The facets in the bathtub were broken and we had to use a wrench to turn it on and off. At that point I was not working so extras were just not something that we had in our budget. The oddest thing about this home though was that the water heater was located in the master bedroom closet in the corner. You know how messy closets can be. Yep you get the picture. One night without any of us knowing the water heater decided to stop working and to leak out onto the closet floor. Basically it blew. Now just like with any leak you really do not notice it until it is beyond repair.

So picture this messy closet with clothes, paper, purses, shoes and what not all over the place. Some clothes are not even on hangers just piled on the floor and your water heater decided to blow. Yep you can imagine the mess that was. The moldy clothes and all. The bad part about this was that things were in layers on the floor so if we did not notice it was leaking until the floor and everything on it was completely soaked. Yep you guessed it disaster struck. Luckily the man that my husband worked for replaced the water heater but not before he called a local plumber to look at the problem.

The plumber  noted that the water heater was beyond repair and that it needed to be replaced along with a complete overhaul of the plumbing system. We were able to find a used water heater for a temporary fix to this problem and within 6 months were able to move into the home we now live in. When we were first looking at houses and before I fell in love with it I checked to see where the water is stored because I did not want a disaster like last time. I checked ours is in the laundry roomJ))).
