- Three-day supply of nonperishable food. (make sure have a manual can opener)
- Three-day supply of water — one gallon of water per person, per day.
- Portable, battery-powered radio or television and extra batteries. (a radio with a crank would be helpful)
- Flashlight and extra batteries.
- First aid kit and manual.
- Sanitation and hygiene items (moist towelettes and toilet paper).
- Matches and waterproof container.
- Whistle.
- Photocopies of credit and identification cards.
- Special needs items, such as prescription medications (keep an extra months supply), eye glasses, contact lens solutions, and hearing aid batteries.
- Items for infants, such as formula, diapers, bottles, and pacifiers.
- If you live in a cold climate:
Jacket or coat, long pants, long sleeve shirt, sturdy shoes, hat, mittens, scarf, sleeping bag or warm blanket.
- Always keep at least half a tank of gas in your car! If there’s no electricity you won’t be able to get gas because the pumps won’t work!
