Three-day supply of nonperishable food. (make sure have a manual can opener)
Three-day supply of water — one gallon of water per person, per day.
Portable, battery-powered radio or television and extra batteries. (a radio with a crank would be helpful)
Flashlight and extra batteries.
First aid kit and manual.
Sanitation and hygiene items (moist towelettes and toilet paper).
Matches and waterproof container.
Whistle.
Photocopies of credit and identification cards.
Special needs items, such as prescription medications (keep an extra months supply), eye glasses, contact lens solutions, and hearing aid batteries.Â
Items for infants, such as formula, diapers, bottles, and pacifiers.
If you live in a cold climate: Jacket or coat, long pants, long sleeve shirt, sturdy shoes, hat, mittens, scarf, sleeping bag or warm blanket.
Always keep at least half a tank of gas in your car! If there’s no electricity you won’t be able to get gas because the pumps won’t work!
