An Elegant Wedding with Special Touches
This partnership is between Nakturnal and Adventures of Frugal Mom.
Y’all I know it is December, but I can’t help reliving my daughter’s beautiful and elegant wedding in August. There were so many details that just made this wedding so personal. From the venue to the people we hired to be a part of Maddie and Lex’s special day to the ceremony itself. I can’t help but reflect on some of the cutest moments of the days. These moments included their vows and the exchanging of their wedding bands.
First, let me tell you about the places and people that made this day so special. I already mentioned Chelsy and The Gathering Co here, but did I tell you that Chelsy and Maddie actually went to school until high school. Chelsy was a year ahead of her in school. So there is that one connection.
The second connection was that Chelsy’s mom, Donna, made the wedding cake. I mentioned it before with the promise of telling you more. So here is me fulfilling that promise. Donna was actually an intern in Maddie’s class when she was in first grade. And when she was in 3rd grade, Donna actually taught her for the last 6 weeks of school as she was filling in for her teacher who was out on maternity leave. Donna also made cakes for both Mikaela and Gracie’s Quince Anos. So to have her make the cake was extremely important to us and we were so excited that she agreed to make it for them. But I will say I think this was the easiest cake that she has made for us. You can see why in the pictures below.
Maddie’s Cake – The flowers were from a local flower farmer, The Mighty Tendril.
Gracie’s cake was a little less elaborate than Mikaela’s with 4 tiers and simple black, red, and white design.
And then there is Mikaela’s cake. This is the very first cake that Donna made for her. As you can see, Mikaela wanted a grand cake, and that is precisely what she got. Five tiers of yumminess.
So we have a wedding coordinator, the cake maker, what’s next? The DJ. We used the same DJ, DJ BEECEE that we used for Gracie’s quince anos. But there is also another special link, he is a police officer and knew my dad. (Long-time readers know how the loss of my dad affected me). He did an incredible job for us once again. Playing some of our favorites- and this time, I even had the time to get out and dance.
So the next special touch has to be the photographer. Like I said, going into planning this wedding, we all knew we wanted to include people and places that were special. I already mentioned we had one former teacher involved, but we didn’t have just one. The husband and wife photography team of Jeffrey and Christina Minnish of Little White Dress Visuals did a fantastic job. Christina taught Maddie her last year of middle school. Out of all her years in middle school, I will have to say that she enjoyed her 8th-grade year the best. Her teachers made school work come alive for her.
The flowers- I already mentioned Mighty Tendrils Flowers. They are a local flower grower that we were able to buy the flowers for the ceremony wholesale. And you know how I love to support local farmers. The flowers were beautiful. Even though it was a little bit of a drive to pick them up, I would use them again. We purchased three buckets of beautiful flowers for the ceremony and the centerpieces.
When we picked them up, I quickly sent a photo of them to the person who was going to arrange them for us. Hence, another special connection- the person who was going to arrange them. She was not only Maddie’s first boss, Emily from Odom Farming Co. but also one of my best friends. I couldn’t wait to see what magic she would perform with these flowers. And with the help of her husband JR, they didn’t disappoint. The ceremony pieces and centerpieces for the reception were simple yet elegant, just like Maddie wanted them to be.
Let’s talk about centerpieces for a moment. Part of the centerpieces were lanterns on loan to us from our dear friend Courtney from Coco Darlings. She allowed us to use her lanterns as the central part of the centerpieces, and Emily placed the flowers around them.
The guest book was designed, created, and painted by Gracie. She took a lot of time and effort to create it. It took the form of a painting that they could not only display in their home but one that also reflected them, including Myelin and Helix, their two cats as well. We included salutes to them at the rehearsal dinner ( more to come on that), and Thomas, the minister who is Chelsy’s husband, included My and He in the wedding ceremony as well. They weren’t able to attend as they were still in California.
And most importantly, the place where they got married, Lane Tree Golf Club. The place where it all began for our little family. The place where Raul and I met and fell in love at first sight. Through the years, it has held many memories for our family. It was were Maddie fell and split her lip open, requiring seven stitches. It is where all three of the girls learned how to drive, driving the golf carts. It is a place where many celebrations have been held, and more importantly, it is a place that has been a constant in our 26 years together. The place where not only did Raul and I started our life together but where we watched our baby girl start her life with the man of her dreams.
So you see, there were so many special touches that were gathered together to make this simple but elegant wedding one of my daughter’s dreams.
