5 Easy Tips for Decorating Your Home on a Budget

5 Easy Tips for Decorating on a Budget from North Carolina Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Whenever I flip through a home magazine, I find myself gazing wistfully at all the rooms that look so pristine and expensive. Unfortunately, not all of us can purchase designer furniture and hire professional painters—but this doesn’t mean we can’t put our own creativity to work and create a room just as beautiful as the ones we see in magazines using a far lower budget. If you agree with me, follow some of my ideas for decorating your home on a budget.

1. Use Stencils

There’s something so irresistible about a strong accent wall, and I’ve been looking for different ways to recreate the beautiful designs I’ve seen on so many walls. As it so happens, doing so is far easier than I’d realized! You can purchase some stencils and use them to create stunning designs on your wall. These will really pop out and make your home seem chic and modern! And it is a great way of decorating your home on a budget.

2. Reupholster Secondhand Furniture

Estate sales and thrift stores are absolute treasure troves when it comes to unique home decorations. A piece of furniture at a good price doesn’t have to suit your exact tastes so long as it’s well-made. All you actually need to reupholster a piece of furniture is the fabric of your choice and a hammer tacker. This is an incredibly easy task once you know how to handle these materials.

3. Buy Art on Etsy

The art we love can be incredibly expensive—even pieces in your typical big-box store can cost a small fortune. This is why I love online communities, where you can buy art pieces directly from individual sellers. If y’all want to buy beautiful prints for a steal, check out some online marketplaces for your next art piece!

4. Make a Bookshelf Out of a Ladder

You may have a couple of ladders in your garage that are… not cute, to say the least. However, you can completely rehabilitate one to make a stylish piece of furniture. Sand down and paint a ladder, and then add some slats to create shelves. You can use this to display your favorite books and a couple of other knickknacks!

5. Use String Lights

I’m not suggesting that you use string lights as your primary light source, but there’s something so refreshing about using them for an aesthetic purpose. Stringing them along the surface of a piece of furniture illuminates your decorations and creates a very modern ambiance.
