Something Old into Something New

This is the first in the series on how you can redecorate and be frugal at the same time.

 AFM Old Before

I love to shop and I love to find new things to redecorate my house. Unfortunately my wallet does not always line up with this love. When I want to create a new look for my home, I often times have to think outside of the box- making something old into something new. Take for instance this piece of furniture. This use to house our television. I bought it when we first moved into our home 8 years ago. After 8 years, I decided we needed a change. Have you ever noticed how just moving one piece of furniture to another room in your house can make a big impact? Also isn’t it amazing what a can of spray paint can do to make things new?

Take this television stand. We took it outside and spray painted it black. Then on the panels, I took a piece of lace and taped it to the panels. I then used silver spray paint to spray through the lace to create a pattern. This is such a cool way to make a unique design.

Add a new set of knobs and now it is a brand new cabinet. All the only money I spent to give this piece new life was for the spray paint and the knobs. This cabinet now holds all my blogging stuff from reviews I need to write, to my camera, and journals for all my blog writing ideas. It now sits in a place of honor in bedroom. Check out the transformation.

Check back next week to see how I turned one of those ugly standard entertainment centers into a sleek stand for our television.

  3. That turned out awesome! I completely agree with you on transforming an existing piece into something new. Last year, my fiance took some rickety old pieces of wooden furniture, chopped them up, and used the wood to build a new counter in the kitchen. You’d never know it once it was paints. It’s frugal and eco-friendly!

  4. I am trying to gain the courage to paint my MILs dinning chairs that were gifted to us! They are really old and have a layer of wax build up on them. I will have to wait until I am brave enough to start stripping them. Great job on your project!
